Sachael

The birth of twin Aasimar, Nathanael and Sachael, was deemed a miracle amongst priests within Signis. Their parents, relatives to the current rulers, had tried desperately throughout the years to bare children, only for them to be stricken by miscarriage time and time again. Once hope had been lost, they finally received the exact thing they were longing for.

Right from the beginning, Nathanael excelled in nearly all aspects, leaving Sachael seen as inferior by their mentors. Rather than being spiteful Sachael began to idolize his brother, wanting nothing more than to be as amazing as Nathanael. If he could do the things Nathanael could do, would people look to him more? Would they be impressed by Sachael’s accomplishments? Having that kind of positive attention sounded incredible.

As time went on the twins’ duties were separated, Nathanael training to take on the responsibility of being the head of the Duskshoulder family and managing their vast jewelry and mining company while Sachael was sent to work alongside priests around Signis Eye despite Sachael’s complaints. The family thought it would be important for one of the brothers to develop a deep spiritual bond with Torag, so in the future Sachael could seek spiritual guidance to further the company's profits.

As the twins' time was split apart, they wrote letters to one another to keep in touch and talk when they were unable to meet face to face, secretly leaving these letters underneath each other's pillows to avoid anyone else from reading them. Sachael always anticipated Nathaneal’s letters, as he loved hearing about his twin’s expeditions around the desert and lessons. In a way, Sachael was envious of his brother. He wanted to go on cool expeditions and learn about the world too, but instead he was stuck assisting priests and lighting candles in cathedrals.

Noticing a lack of interest in Sachael’s work, Father Foghorn decided to bring the prince along for his pilgrimage and teach him the joys of their profession. Only a few days into their journey, their carriage was attacked by pirates who were plotting to kill Father Foghorn for reasons unknown to Sachael. Surprised by Sachael’s presence the pirates decided to kidnap them both instead and demand ransom for the both of them to be returned safely. Knowing that the pirates would likely go back on their word, Father Foghorn began to plot an escape with Sachael. The priest did everything he could to care for Sachael and keep him calm, all while trying to learn of the most opportune time for them to break out. Sachael quickly grew fond of Father Foghorn, learning much about the old Dwarf through various stories the priest told to calm Sachael’s anxiety attacks. In the weeks they spent together Sachael began to understand just why Father Foghorn chose to be a good person despite the world’s cruelty to him, all the way up to the end. They had decided to make their escape during a sandstorm, the dangerous weather giving the pirates a reason to not chase after them. Father Foghorn gave up his life so Sachael could live on; it was a gesture the prince would never forget.

Not knowing where he was, Sachael’s only option was to continue forward and hope he would end up at the gates of Signis. Eventually he passed out in the desert, fated to die… until a merchant heading home spotted Sachael laying in the sand unconscious. The merchant instantly recognized the Prince and brought him home.

Sachael was adamant in getting training to be a paladin as soon as possible. As he healed, Sachael and Nathanael began to train together. As usual, Nathanael excelled, leaving even their instructors surprised. Over time, Nathanael left the palace, wanting to make a name for himself as the up-in-coming ‘Hero Prince of Signis Eye’ according to the townsfolk. As a part of Nathanael’s training, he was tasked to venture around the realm and learn about different minerals that could be found from other professionals, as well as improve relations. As a part time gig in between his travels, Nathanael would take up odd adventuring tasks as a means to not let his journey become dull or w/e. Throughout Nathanael’s adventures, he continued to write to Sachael, describing each and every one of his accomplishments in great detail. Sachael, in response, became inspired. He now too wanted to be a great hero like Nathanael! Helping people around Signis Eye wasn’t bad, but there were other places that needed more help than his homecity. After a long approval process, Sachael was finally permitted to go outside of the city and journey on his own so long as he brings their golem butler with him.
