Hesperos is the type of person you can count on. He’s reliable, good at problem solving, and will do anything to help someone out of a bind no matter who they are. He tries to see the best in any situation and can always be found with a chipper attitude, ready to encourage his crew to keep moving even when all seems lost. He never loses hope even in the darkest hour, and does a good job at keeping cool under pressure. These traits all contribute to a solid skill in leadership that makes his crew quite fond of him.

He tends to act too quickly, making snap decisions that don’t always work out and can get him and his crew into trouble, something he is aware of, and most certainly works to correct anytime that he can. He’s also not an experienced pilot- he has his certifications and correct lessons but hasn’t had much time in the field to develop his practical knowledge or earn a reputation one way or the other among the space federations.

He is quite adaptable to situations, and handles change well, and can be rather clever at times. He isn’t exactly book smart- but he’s definitely got a good head on his shoulders and can work things out pretty effectively in most cases. He does get a little squeamish when anything medical related is involved. 

He is quite likeable and generally charismatic despite the fact he doesn’t really make friends by choice. He tends to realize people are ‘liking him’ too much and intentionally cut them off from himself. 

"Did you ever wonder what was out there?"

Hesperos did, and he was desperate to find out no matter what it took from him. So enwrapped in solving the mysteries of a plane of existence he didn't understand he was often told to have be born on another planet. Which was the worst for him, with his family being dedicatedly planted on earth despite the vicious space race that had taken over the time in which he was born and lived. So rooted in fact, the mere concept of him taking flight on one of the space shuttles set for pioneering on other planets was more than enough to make his home life dedicated to ruining every hope and dream he ever had.

But that didn’t stop Hesperos. His biggest challenge was overcoming his family. Overcoming the bias they held for those who weren’t ‘earthborn’ and those who were a disgrace by being what they referred to as ‘planet fodder’, explorers thrown to the wind on dangerous planets to meet nothing other than their demise.

Hesperos was different. He was determined that that wouldn’t be the case. Perhaps he’s naive, or his dreams are simply stronger than his reason- but he was more than earnest in his decision that he was going to make something of himself, out in the wild distant stars.

After plenty of online classes, sheltered under his covers in the dead of night. Sneaking out of the house, pretending to get a different schooling, and journeying to test flights in secrecy, Hesperos found himself as the captain of a small cargo vessel. On March 5th, 2075, he stepped aboard, and all his family’s burdens and expectations fell weightless. 

And that weight was replaced with eyes he couldn’t even fathom locked firmly on his future. Unwittingly, he was on a journey that could crush his dreams more efficiently than anything his family could have thrown at him 

“I wondered. And the wonder ate me alive.”

His obsession with fulfilling his dream left him without many close contacts or family/friends that he’s really bonded with. He’s more or less on his own. If you commented on this- he’d tell you its how it should be. His lack of trust in himself prevents him from willingly letting others in for fear that they’ll just lose him one day to his own pursuits

In this time period, earth is a dying planet and they viewed supporting your home as more important than “Running off” and associated it with “Running away from responsibility”. It was partially also due to fear that he would perish somewhere in space and he’d never be found again

He stood firmly as he could as the ground roiled the blue-tinted soil of Cradus ZD0, staring up at the intimidating monolith in front of him, towering into the red burnished sky, and he wondered deeply, back to his very roots, how he came to be here. Was it really his choice, or did he fall into the trap of so many others?

Was this really what he wanted? Or just what the government had made him think he wanted?

 He tried to push himself to flee, to urge his legs to move but they felt static, lifeless to his commands. Would this be his end? What terrible, ancient entity brought down his ship and took his crew from him?

More importantly, what did it want? 

He felt a deep, visceral dread in the pits of his being. Something beyond anything he’d felt before or he thought he may ever feel again. Danger, at its most primal level.

And it spoke. “Help me, and I will help you.”
And he had no choice.
