Artistic Notes

Reference Sheet:

Physical Appearance: Somewhat messy. Being raised by very animalistic Kodin Solas' grooming habits are far different than the average person. His hair is typically messy and tangled. The only thing that's remotely kept nice are his wings, although even then he never learned the proper way to preen them so they're still fairly unkempt.

Clothing: Nice tailored clothing. With how he was raised his standards for outfitting is a bit higher than usual. That being said, most of what he wears is lightweight to avoid getting in the way of his wings.

Expressions: Happy

Personality

Likes: Birds, origami

Dislikes: Libraries, cats/felines, red magic

Fears/Phobias: Red magic blight

Generally pretty happy and upbeat. Being raised by Kodin has made Solas a bit of an oddball, though. At least by his species standards. Much like his kodin siblings he’s very excitable and wears his emotions on his sleeve. Very curious as well. Given how many times he’s woken up only to find himself in a completely different era of time it’s hard not to find the world fascinating. He may be slow to catch on to some things, especially those that conflict with his past knowledge of the world, but he’s really eager to learn.

Solas is a very sociable person, but he often finds it difficult to make connections. He was raised in a very large family as one of the oldest so he’s no stranger to having little privacy or being in a crowd. He was also raised by merchants, meaning even more social interaction on a day to day basis. The difficulty comes with his battle with time. Every time he’s been locked away or put in stasis a few hundred years or more have passed. That means, on more than one occasion, everyone he’s ever known has been lost to time permanently while he’s stuck right where he is. It’s hard to get too close when there’s the looming threat of having it all stripped away hanging over your head.

Abilities

Strengths: Inherit magic

Weaknesses: Lack of magic knowledge

Weapons/Tools: Magic, Rapier

Solas’ brand of magic very heavily relies on the folding of paper. Folding paper birds is the most common, although it can be any number of things depending on the desired result. They’re commonly made to send messages. Write a message on a piece of paper, fold it into a bird, send the bird flying off towards the recipient. It’s a very versatile thing. Even his familiar is made of paper. A massive paper Phoenix named Poe.

In addition to his folded paper, Solas also knows a fair bit about healing magic. Well, he knows how to use it or how to make it work. He’s more akin to a sorcerer; someone who can use magic just fine but doesn’t understand the mechanics behind it. Generally speaking whenever he uses magic it’s a shot in the dark as to whether it works or not. Healing is a vague exception, as he was taught common spell components for it when he first began using it.

Backstory

Solas was born in the year 4108BDI to a human woman named Sylvia. His birth mother and father were both founders of a group known as the “flighted resistance”: a group of human sorcerers who were hellbent on kicking Lykan off his throne and stopping the genocide of their kind. It was very difficult work, and Sylvia was constantly busy. In order to manage both a social uprising and the raising of a newborn she had her familiar care for him while she was away.

Syliva’s familiar was a Phoenix named Poe. A massive bird brought to life by her magic made entirely out of folded paper darts. Whenever Sylvia had to leave for whatever reason Poe would be on standby watching over him. During his infancy Solas was fed, warmed, and cleaned by Poe. He was a good guardian, but a bird is no replacement for a real mother and Sylvia knew this.

Sylvia had always had an affinity towards purple magic. She used it often to overpower Lykan’s ranks and keep her and her allies safe. The only problem with this was how difficult and precise purple magic tends to be. It’s by far the most dangerous form of magic to use, and given this was well before it’d even been formally discovered nobody had a clue how to use it properly. This left Sylvia badly blighted towards the end of the resistance's first wave. Eventually it became too much. Things were looking bleak with Lykan. Their ranks were being brought down and Sylvia was slowly succumbing to her own magic.

She cared deeply for her son. Deeply enough to want better for him. If he stayed with her as they continued on with the uprising he’d undoubtably be hurt or killed. In order to keep Solas safe Sylvia contacted an old friend to take care of him. Deep down she knew this would be the last time she ever saw her son, but it’d be for the best.

This old friend was a Kodin by the name of Rasterahz. He was the last of his kind, so to speak. The two had met in university. Both studied similar magic, and Ras had taken a particular interest in Sylvia’s very niche abilities. They’d lost contact over the years. Ras had moved to the country of Dibrook in order to keep himself safe from Lykan, as getting killed in the resistance would cause his species to become extinct. He was the last Equine, after all. Seeing as he was a respectable mage and shared very similar viewpoints, at least in Sylvia’s perspective, she opted to send her son to live with him as she continued on with the resistance.

Of course, she’d never get the chance to carry on. By the time Sylvia had made contact with Ras and traveled all the way from Bane to Dibrook to bring Solas to him her blight was past the point of no return. It had gotten so bad that using any magic at all only fed into it more; causing it to grow and spread. When she arrived in Dibrook she was weak. The last thing she was able to do before the blight took over was hand off her beloved child to Ras’ assistant and hope to god he got where he needed to go.

Solas' time with Ras was very brief. Extremely brief. Unbeknownst to Sylvia, Ras did not align with her morals. He’d grown to resent her after she got involved with the resistance. She had promised to help him restore his species via the use of her magic and that promise had long since been forgotten. Now she was dropping off an infant with very little warning. He resented Solas. He loathed Solas. So much so that for a moment he considered throwing him into the sea and letting him drown, but that didn’t come to be. Rasterahz found a different use for the child.

Solas was related to Sylvia, and Sylvia had a very niche tie to magic. Solas also had this tie. It was blatantly clear by the wings on his back. Sorcerer’s wings. Something only very powerful mages are granted. Ras figured that if he could somehow leech off of his magic he’d be able to use it for himself. So he created a bassinet sized box. It was carved with several different runes and enchanted in such a way that it'd sap whatever magic was placed inside of it and grant said power to Ras.

It was also designed to more or less freeze whatever was placed inside of it in time until the box was opened. That way Ras would have access to Solas’ power indefinitely without having to worry about taking care of him. Once the box was finished Solas was placed inside and sealed away. He’d be trapped in this box for the next 400 or so years.

A lot can happen in 400 years. Including the box he was sealed in being stolen, dropped, and broken open. The second it broke Solas was set free, but he found himself underwater near the shore of one of Dibrook’s many beaches. If it weren’t for a group of passing merchants Solas would have drowned right then and there. A child that age had no chance of swimming to shore and finding civilization.

He was found by a family of Kodin. A pack of traveling merchants who made their living trading handmade goods between Vertgate and Dibrook. They largely focused on textiles. Making fabric, dying yarn, sewing clothes, etc. The route they took just so happened to pass by the beach Solas was on. His adoptive mother, Ester, saw him lifelessly floating in the ocean and rushed to his aid. She couldn’t fathom how anyone could do something so horrible to a child so young!

Originally Ester planned to get Solas well again and find a better suited family for him, but the family quickly became attached. No one would ever protect this child the way she did. Whoever had been caring for him before clearly didn’t want him, and she didn’t want to imagine the horrible things a stranger might do if he were ever left in their care. So, the family keps him. They had the means to add another child to their family. At the time it was just Ester, her husband Tolen, and their daughter Kalissa.

As far as Solas was concerned this is where his life began. He grew up with this Kodin family which very quickly got larger. He didn’t stay the youngest for long, that’s for sure. Eventually he’d end up with four younger siblings: Rovell, Flint , Raven , and Ren. From the beginning Solas had been put to work. Everyone in the family had to pull their own weight in order to survive. When he was extremely young this mainly included feeding the family’s hens and donkeys or helping his mother wind yarn. As he got older his responsibilities increased. Soon enough he was helping feed and care for the younger siblings so his parents could craft and sell their wares. It was a lot of responsibility, but Solas never minded it all that much.

Growing up raised by Kodin did come with its challenges. For one thing, none of them knew a damn thing about elves. His diet was always a concern, and for a good while he was fairly underweight as his mother was overly cautious with the types of food she fed him. Everything was overcooked, and anything that made him even remotely sick regardless of the reason behind it was banned. Her intentions were good at heart, but Ester’s overly cautious way of handling things often did more harm than good.

There was also the matter of behaviour. Solas lacked many of the natural instincts Kodin was born with, so learning how to “read” him was difficult. His parents didn’t know what normal Elf behaviour was, so Solas picked up far more odd habits than he would have if raised exactly like his siblings. Whenever he did anything unusual, to elf or Kodin standards, his parents wrote it off as normal for his species and let him continue on.

His sleeping habits were a very hot topic among his siblings. Both his younger and older siblings all had to rise at the crack of dawn to get work started for the day. Canines woke early and stayed up late. His siblings were forced to follow suit because his parents knew for a fact Kodin could operate on the amount of sleep they were getting. Solas, on the other hand, was always allowed to sleep in. He went to bed at the same time as everyone else, but where his siblings had to get up at 6 he was often allowed to sleep in until 9 or 10.

Just about every argument he had with his siblings was about this, and it usually devolved from there into petty insults about how coddled Solas was. They didn’t argue often, however. Solas had always gotten along just fine with his siblings. Well, his younger ones anyway. His older sister Kalissa had her reservations. The second Solas was found was when her childhood “ended” more or less. Still, they were civil with one another. Solas knew not to poke the bear.

Life was good. The family traveled from place to place selling their wares and Solas was able to experience all the different cultures and customs of the world around him. Traveling like this was fun! He enjoyed seeing all the things the world had to offer. Both good and bad. Vertgate was always somewhere his family had to tread lightly. Partially because Canine Kodin were not liked there, and partially because the country still remembered what Sylvia’s resistance did to them. Any flighted human or lesser human was immediately suspect.

Around the time Solas was 15 he started having really bizarre dreams. He often dreamt of a massive white bird flying down from a black void and having conversations with him. It constantly talked about how difficult it was to “make contact” and things of the like. Every night this bird would ask Solas to find him something, and the next morning when he woke up any piece of paper he got too close to would fold itself into a paper bird and begin leading him on a wild goose chase towards whatever the targeted item was.

Most of what this dream bird asked for were items related to magic in one way or another. Spellbooks, spell components, potion ingredients, sometimes even raw magic. What kind of magic or what set of spells were always different, but the bird apparently needed it for its “research”, whatever that meant. Solas would have ignored the dreams if it weren’t for the very real paper birds he kept inexplicably creating wherever he went. His only real choice was to follow them. If he didn’t they’d just flutter around his head angrily indefinitely.

The dreams only got weirder from there. Once he’d gathered enough stuff he was taught a spell that’d, in theory, take all of these items to whatever mysterious person was trying to contact him. The spell in question could be found at the local library of the town he was currently visiting with his family. Sounded simple enough. Plus, if he got this stuff to the person in question maybe he’d finally stop having such bizarre dreams.

All was going well, at first. Getting to the library was a piece of cake and the book he needed was right on the shelf where he’d been told. But when he grabbed the book off the shelf something strange began to happen. It immediately slammed itself open, and the pages of the book began tearing off and swirling around him. It wasn’t just the book he touched either. Soon enough every book in the vicinity was flying off the shelves and their papers were swarming around Solas like a massive paper tornado! They just kept getting faster and faster and faster, until suddenly they stopped.

All of the papers lazily fluttered to the ground, and Solas found himself in a very peculiar place. It looked like a university library. Students were sat at nearby desks working on schoolwork; many of them giving Solas odd looks. He didn’t have the time to be embarrassed, though. Before he could even ask where he was, a human woman approached him and whisked him off towards her dorm room.

This woman had the same voice as the bird in his dreams. Same voice, same speaking mannerisms, same everything. She was undoubtedly the person who’d attempted to make contact with him, and she was overjoyed to see her spell actually worked. Solas tried to ask questions, but much of what he said was brushed aside or ignored. He wasn’t even allowed to introduce himself! Apparently the spell this woman had used had very strict rules, and apparently revealing any information aside from what she specifically asked for broke said rules. He didn’t understand, but he didn’t object either.

The woman, who would remain nameless for the remainder of their time in contact, apparently wanted Solas’ help “cracking the code” on modern day magic. The items and books Solas had access to were more or less the key to her success. So, naturally, she wanted to get her hands on them as soon as possible.

Communication with this mysterious contact would soon be cut short, however. Her “rules” never seemed to be consistent. Solas would be teleported over to her base of operations as needed. Every time he went to visit it seemed she was getting more and more sick, and this illness seemed to correspond with these “rules” she kept talking about. It looked like a massive black bruise going across her face and down her neck. With each visit the mark got larger, and with each visit more rules were added.

Eventually, after Solas had stolen many books and destroyed many libraries in the process, she decided it’d be best if they cut contact. They’d both taught each other a fair bit about magic. Whatever information Solas had given her seemed to have been enough, even though Solas didn’t know what the hell any of it was for. There was no longer a reason for them to continue working together, so they simply ended things. After they did his weird dreams stopped and life more or less went back to normal, albeit with a new lifetime ban from all of Vertgate’s libraries.

Life continued on for Solas. His family still traveled just as much as ever. It was their means of survival, after all. Even as tensions began to run high in Vertgate and crossing the border began to get more and more difficult. If they weren’t on the road they weren’t making money, and if they didn’t make money they wouldn’t survive.

When Solas was around 17 his family made a routine stop in Dibrook. Specifically in the city of Dagzdan. Solas had been there several times before. It wasn’t the most notable place in the world. It was near the border, it connected to the shoreline they traveled on, and it was home to most of the refugees fleeing from Vertgate. A standard and uninteresting place.

Solas had decided to sleep in the stables alongside one of the family’s donkeys. It was beginning to get up there in age and had several health complications as a result. This donkey had been pulling the family’s caravan since before Solas was adopted, so naturally he’d grown attached over the years. It wasn’t doing well, and Solas wanted to be there in case it passed during the night.

Well, him sleeping in the barn ultimately ended in him getting left behind. What he didn’t know was that his family had sold the donkey to one of the locals, which is why it wasn’t tied up with the rest of them. Because he’d always been allowed to sleep in, his family assumed he was sleeping in the cart when they set off. Solas woke up late to find his family gone and himself all alone.

It was jarring being all alone like this. Solas had never gotten a moment to himself in his life and suddenly there was absolutely no one to turn to. He started searching around town for any sign of his family, but there was no one there. He was all alone. No money, no belongings, and no possible idea where his family had gone off to. With how touchy Vertgate’s borders were, all of their travel plans were up in the air. Solas didn’t even know if they’d left the country or gone further into Dibrook.

He decided it’d be best to stay where he was. If he stayed put his family would surely notice his absence eventually and they’d come to the rescue. Until then he’d have to find some way to make a little extra money in order to rent out a place to sleep and buy food.

Solas ended up stumbling across a bounty put up by the local church. A strange illness had been sweeping through Dagzdan and the church was in charge of healing those afflicted. They needed help gathering potion ingredients needed to make a healing salve which were beginning to run thin due to the amounts being collected. Solas figured finding plants was an easy enough job to do. While he wasn’t the best at it his family had taught him how to track things. Plants didn’t move, so finding them would be a piece of cake!

As Solas was on the hunt he ended up running into a pair of canine Kodin who, oddly enough, were unable to speak any of the canine languages. They only spoke Chitt and they were frantically in search of anyone who could understand them. Their names were Tiago and Koba. Apparently they’d been called in from Vertgate by one of the local Priests.

They’d been pen pals for quite some time; exchanging knowledge on their respective types of magic via letter. This priest had called them to the country in order to help him with a project, but seeing as they’d never been to Dagzdan before they didn’t know how to navigate. Solas didn’t either, but he was the only one in town who could translate for them, so the three teamed up in order to find this mysterious pen pal.

Tiago and Koba were very peculiar individuals. They were brothers, but unlike Solas’ family the two couldn’t be more different. Tiago was very outspoken and sociable while Koba was quiet and reserved. One thing they had in common, though, was their magic. The two had been brought in to help heal the illness spreading around and both of them were extremely good at what they did.

After much asking around and wandering aimlessly around town the group was eventually led to the person they were looking for. This priest apparently lived on an island connected to town by a land bridge. He’d moved out to such a remote area to avoid the illness being spread. From what they were able to gather he was the last of his kind, so if he died that’d be the end of his lineage. Strange, but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.

This kodin introduced himself as Rasterahz and right away Solas was able to tell why he was so cautious. He was a Kodin, much like Tiago and Koba and the rest of his family, but he wasn’t anything like the two known variants at the time. He looked more like a horse than a cat or a dog. Ras was thankful Solas helped Tiago and Koba find him. And given he was the only one able to translate anything they said he offered to pay Solas to continue doing so.

Solas continued to pal around with Tiago and Koba and he very quickly came to learn just how powerful their magic really was. They’d come up with a way to encapsulate blue magic into a small pill. Ingesting this pill would almost instantly cure anyone inflicted with the illness being spread around town. Apparently, according to them, this illness was caused by Red Magic, so curing it with Blue Magic was one of the quickest and easiest ways to do it. The town saw these pills as a miracle cure. Immediately the group began getting all sorts of praise, although Koba and Tiago were moreso. After a while people began viewing these two kodin as some sort of gods.

Work with Tiago and Koba eventually began to wane. The two had caught on to the local language so Solas’ translation services were no longer needed. He once again began looking around town for work. Anything to keep him afloat while he waited for his family to return. Given his experience with animals he decided to try his luck at the local stables where all this had started. That, and he wanted to check in on his donkey. Technically it wasn’t his anymore, but he still wanted to make sure it was okay.

At the stables Solas saw a very peculiar sight. Something he never would have expected. While he was inside giving his donkey a nice pat on the head a skeletal figure shrouded in black fog creeped out of the wall and floated towards him. He was surprised to say the least, but not scared. This creature looked terrifying, but it was showing no telltale signs of aggression. If anything it was curious. This creature poked Solas on the head and smooshed his face playfully. It seemed to be a human skeleton with black fog forming itself into a vague body shape. It had very long black hair and striking yellow eyes just like his.

After a while Solas was able to gather this creature wanted him to follow it. He wasn’t sure why, but this wouldn’t be the first time he was contacted by a mysterious and elusive individual like this. He followed the creature out towards the shoreline of Ras’ island and a fair bit out into the water. There buried in the sand he found what appeared to be a broken piece of pottery. Solas picked it up and the second he made contact with it a vision started playing before his eyes.

This vision showed Rasterahz, oddly enough. He was swaddling a bundle of blankets in his arms and looking out towards the ocean. It was clear by how he was acting that he was heavily conflicted over something. What that was wasn’t clear, but after several minutes of contemplating whatever it was Ras removed the blanket from the things face revealing a tiny blue skinned pointy eared child. It looked like Solas! There was no way it wasn’t Solas!

The skeletal creature clearly wanted Solas to find the rest of the shards to this item, and given what Solas had seen as a result of it he was more than willing to help. It seemed there were elements of his past even he didn’t know about. It was obvious he was adopted into his Kodin family. What happened before that he didn’t know. His mother never talked about it. Whenever he asked she’d be thrown into a panic. She often had panic attacks whenever it came to Solas’ past. Whatever had happened very clearly scarred her, so he learned not to bring it up.

With each shard he collected Solas got a new “memory”, so to speak. From the narrative Solas was able to put together it seemed he was given to Rasterahz for whatever reason. Ras wanted Solas power for himself so he sealed him away inside the very box he was putting back together in order to draw power out of him and use it for himself. Why he wanted to do this Solas didn’t know! But that wasn’t all he saw. At the very beginning of the vision he saw the person who brought him to Ras in the first place. A very familiar white haired human. The one who’d made contact with him in his dreams.

Solas’ magic wasn’t the only magic being stolen by Ras. After this woman succumbed to the blight overtaking her her body was dragged away by Ras and stored in a much larger shrine. The vision didn’t show what this shrine was for, however. All he knew was Ras made it specifically to store this woman’s body. He needed to know more. It was like he was stumbling on pawns in a game he didn’t even know he was playing and now he was determined to win despite not knowing the rules. He had to find this temple.

It wasn’t hard. Not only had the vision shown several distinct landmarks but Solas’ skeletal friend also helped guide the way. It wasn’t long before he was right outside the temple’s entrance. The whole thing was a labyrinth in and of itself. There were puzzles and riddles and all sorts of confusing requirements needed in order to even gain entry in the first place. Once Solas had gotten in, though, it became clear what Ras was using it for.

Inside the temple was row upon row of coffins. Like a massive mass grave. Inside each of the coffins were various Equine bodies of varying stages of composition. They all looked like Ras. At the very end of the temple was the body of this human. It was propped up on an angle which allowed any fluids dripping off her to collect in a container. From what he was able to gather this magic was able to revive someone. That someone, obviously, being Rasterahz. It made sense. With how far he seemed willing to go to keep himself alive it was clear he didn’t intend on letting his life get cut short any time soon.

That’s when Solas found something else. In the room with this human’s body was a box of items that clearly didn’t belong to Ras. Inside of the box were tons of baby supplies. Toys, old rotted food, clothing, and even a small silver totem of a bird attached to a necklace. The skeleton friend seemed saddened at the sight of it all. The temple, the body, the totem. All of it.

Curious, Solas picked up the totem. That seemed to strike a particular cord with this skeletal figure. It was clearly magical in some way, but he wasn’t quite sure how to activate it. After a little while of fiddling with the thing it eventually shined a bright blue and all of the loose papers in the room began swirling around Solas similar to how they did in his dream. All of the papers condensed into the shape of a massive bird!

The second the bird came to life it jumped on Solas and began trying to nest on top of him. Surprisingly, it could speak! He kept going on and on about how he “had to keep the baby warm” and he kept calling Solas “Nez”, for whatever reason. Solas asked question after question and eventually the bird managed to say something intelligible enough for him to make sense of it all.

The woman in the room, the dead one, her name was Sylvia. She was a brilliant mage and powerful Sorcerer who was in the process of trying to overthrow Lord Lykan when she got pregnant and had a child. A child named Nez. This bird, who Solas later named Poe, was tasked with taking care of the baby when Sylvia was away. He clothed the baby, fed the baby, and kept the baby warm. All sorts of stuff. But who was the baby? Given Poe’s reaction and Sylvia’s, the skeleton friend, Solas came to the conclusion that the baby was him.

Suddenly all the pieces were falling into place, but there was one thing Solas just couldn’t figure out. How did Ras know his mother? And why did he loathe him to the point of sealing him away in a box and throwing him into the sea? He had to know. He’d go crazy if he didn’t know. So, with Poe now on his side, Solas saddled up and flew off to Ras island in search of answers. Hopefully there he’d find the answers he was looking for.

Rasterahz was hard at work charting a map when Solas arrived. His reaction to seeing Poe already spoke volumes, but Solas decided to try being civil first and asked as calmly as he could who Ras really was and what the hell he was up to. He made it clear he’d already seen his weird death shrine and he already knew about the box so lying wouldn’t be worth the effort.

Ras’ demeniour immediately shifted. As angry as he was at Solas for digging up his past he did explain himself. Rasterahz was the very last of his kind. All of the others had died decades ago during the Abrupt Demise. In order to preserve his species and, hopefully, one day revive them Rasterahz took to using magic to keep himself alive well past his expiration date. Sylvia had promised to use her magic to aid him. They were both helping each other, but soon Sylvia met Barsara, Solas’ father, and the two got enveloped into the flighted resistance. Ras was tossed aside and once again left to rot as the two formed a life together with the rest of their little group.

Ras was going to let bygones be bygones. After he moved out of Bane to Dibrook he thought he’d cut contact with the flighted ones entirely. But one day he got a letter from Sylvia telling him she’d not only had a child, but they were in grave danger and she was going to be leaving the child in his care. This enraged Ras! He couldn’t carry on his species and now she was rubbing it in his face by carrying on her own! When Solas arrived in his care he just about threw him into the sea to drown, but then he got a better idea. The box. Solas already knew all about the box.

This is where it came out that Ras not only made a new version of said box, an Urn with similar enchantments, but he’d made a whole whack of them and he was planning on using them to power himself to the brink of godhood. Apparently he figured his goal of reviving his species was a feat for the gods themselves and that he could only achieve it if he was one. While the souls he had picked out for the urns would bring him great power, they would not ascend him. That would involve finishing the flighted restsiance’s last unfinished task.

In the battle against Lykan the resistance had come to a very similar conclusion. Overthrowing Lykan was a feat only a god could accomplish, so they sought out to become one as well. In their endeavour they’d learned about something simply known as “the sigil” buried somewhere deep in the Shallow Sea. This sigil, from what they’d gathered, had enough magic inside of it to fully ascend someone to the power of a god. Ras had learned where this sigil was and he fully intended on getting it once he’d filled his urns.

It was clear to Solas what was going on. Ras was going to stuff him back into the box and abuse his power once again. Ras could not become a god. Ras used all forms of necromancy and red magic in order to achieve his immortality, and Solas knew for a fact red magic was bad magic. But he was at a crossroads. Ras was not going to let him leave this place alive. He either had to fight and hope to win or let himself get trapped back in the box. His choice was clear.

The two fought. At first Solas believed he and Poe had outnumbered Ras, but it soon became clear Ras wasn’t working alone. He’d created a fiend to help him carry out his work. It was two against two, and Solas wasn’t sure he’d be able to come out on top. Luckily for him, though, the tides turned in his favour. Tiago and Koba were still working for him by this point and the second they saw Ras attacking Solas they teamed up to stop him. The four ended up coming out on top, but not without some casualties. Tiago had been hit hard by Ras’ magic and he ended up succumbing to his wounds before anyone could do anything about it.

Solas explained what was going on. Koba had apparently been helping him find information not only on the Sigil’s location, but also for the souls he was planning on trapping. He was going to use the magic Koba had taught him to draw in and capture the flighted resistance’s souls and use their combined powers to break the barrier and claim the sigil for himself. This could not be allowed to happen, so with Koba’s help they ransacked Ras’ temple, got all the information they could, and set off to claim the sigil before he could.

This journey to the shallow sea ended up bringing Solas back to Vertgate. As he and Koba gathered supplies there he ended up stumbling across a very familiar looking caravan. Inside this caravan was a very familiar looking Kodin. It was Kalissa! His sister was here! Immediately he ran over in hopes of finding the rest of his family, but that excitement was cut short.

Kalissa explained that the family had been trapped in Vertgate for the past few months due to a total border lockdown. They were unable to leave, unable to make any money, and to top it all off all of the younger siblings had been taken away by the border control! They told the family it was to check their paperwork, but after several days it was clear they weren’t coming back. Solas was heartbroken. No one at customs would give the Loquacious family the time of day, but perhaps if Solas went in and asked they’d be more willing to give out information. It was worth a shot.

After much bribery at customs Solas came to find out that his younger siblings were “already brought home” to their alleged guardian. The woman would not give out a full name, but she did mention this guardian went by the name “Arun”. Koba knew that name. It was Rasteraz’ last name! Rasterahz Arun! He may have been killed, but Solas and Koba both knew he wouldn’t have stayed dead for long. He pressed more, and it eventually came out that Arun had taken the children off to a neighboring town known for its mines.

Poe, Solas, and Koba set off towards the aforementioned town after reconnecting with his remaining family and began frantically asking around. A band of Canine children following an Equine would surely be unmistakable. Someone had to have seen them! And indeed someone had. Solas was pointed down into the mines where Rasterahz had apparently used the children’s small size to squeeze inside and do whatever the hell he was planning on having them do.

Getting into the mines was easy enough. Solas was much smaller than Ras so while it was a tight squeeze he was able to get inside. There he found the first three younger siblings: Rovell, Flint, and Raven. They explained that Ras wanted them to come down here and essentially graverob the place. This mine was home to the resting place of the Flighted resistance. All of them but one. Sylvia. That’s because Sylvia was here with Solas, albeit as a wraith. But because Sylvia was here, meaning her soul was not free for Ras to take, he had to take another soul in her place. Ras had taken Solas’ youngest brother, Ren, to replace Sylvia.

With his siblings now free and a set location in place Solas, Koba, and Poe set off to the shallow sea in the hopes of beating Ras there and getting the sigil first. They had to. If they didn’t the world as they knew it would be doomed to the mercy of an evil and spiteful god. They managed to get to the Sigil’s location, but much to their horror Ras was already there. Luckily for them, Ras was locked inside the Sigle’s trap and had yet to activate it for himself.

The room the sigil in was laid out like a maze, and with each turn one made the whole room would rearrange itself. Ras had been caught up in this maze which made it extremely difficult to get to the center where the Sigil was. Solas, Koba, and Poe all split up to try and get to it first. Solas managed to bump into Ras, and in order to keep him busy and away from the sigil Solas once again began to fight with the Kodin. It was mostly to keep him busy, but it was also an attempt to free his sibling.

Solas managed to grab Ras’ bag and take out two of the urns, smashing both on the ground. One of them indeed was his younger brother while the other was a much older dark blue skinned winged elf. He didn’t have the time to ask questions. Before anyone was able to do anything else the maze abruptly stopped moving and a bright blue beam of light illuminated the entire room. Koba had gotten to the sigil and activated it! They’d stopped Ras! Seeing as he’d been defeated, Ras swiftly created a magic circle and teleported himself away.

Now it seemed they had the time to sit and think about things. They could come up with a plan. The other winged elf introduced himself as Barsara. The second that name came up Sylvia’s wraith came out of the woodworks and gave both him and Solas a big hug. The broken family had finally been brought back together! Koba and Poe also regrouped with everyone else, and with Koba’s newfound power and his prior knowledge on the magic of healing he managed to help revive Sylvia. She’d already achieved the feat required to cure herself as a wraith, it’s just that enough time hadn’t passed for the process to occur naturally just yet. Koba’s magic helped speed it up, and Sylvia was mortal once again.

That’s when Sylvia and Barsara dropped a bombshell on the group. Ras had been there to help in the early days of the resistance, and he was there when the group began looking into ways to ascend to godhood. He had the knowledge to ascend himself, it was only a matter of time. So the group came up with a plan. Using Sylvia and Barsara’s knowledge on magic and Koba’s newfound powers the group made a ploy to seal Rasterahz away in one of his own urns. The power drawn from the rest of the flighted resistance’s souls would be warped to keep his urn locked for the rest of eternity. It would be a wonderful plan, if they could find Ras to begin with.

The next few months were spent running all around Mirror Domain in search of Ras and the necessary components to seal him away. It took quite a long time to hint him down, and unfortunately by the time they finally found him his ascension to godhood was just about complete. They wouldn’t be able to seal him away with just the flighted resistance’s souls. Two of the urns had been broken previously and they needed to be replaced.

Sylvia and Barsara had originally planned for them to be the ones to get sealed away. They were also part of the resistance so their magic would naturally be fit for the job. But they wouldn’t get the chance to do so.

Everything was ready. The urns had been made and enchanted properly. The group had learned of Ras’ wheraboutts and were finally ready to lock him away once and for all, but Ras had caught wind of their plans. Before they had the chance to carry out the plan the correct way they were attacked by more of Ras’ fiends. They were far more powerful now, seeing as Ras had almost achieved godhood. Sylvia and Barsara were badly beaten. To the point their magic would no longer be viable inside the urns. But the plan couldn’t stop here! After everything Ras had done to both Solas’ families he couldn’t let him win.

In a last ditch effort to finish Ras off once and for all they had Koba use his magic to push him inside the urn. From there Solas and Ren said their goodbyes and decided to take the place of Sylvia and Barsara. Someone had to do it, and they both knew it couldn’t be Koba. He was Mirror Domain’s newest god! And he was a kind and just person. Someone like him would do much more for the world than Rasterahz ever would.

It was difficult, but they both knew it’d be a necessary sacrifice. They both opened one of their urns and immediately they found themselves getting sucked inside. The world warped and distorted as Solas found himself beginning to fall asleep. Eventually the urn sealed itself completely and for the second time in Solas life he found himself drifting into a state of stasis...

Relationships

Ren Loquacious: Solas’ youngest brother. The two became far closer to each other than the other siblings because of Solas strange magical escapades. Ren was one of the only ones in the family to believe Solas about his weird dreams. He even helped him gather the spell components and books Sylvia had asked for. After being rescued from Ras’ urn the two only got closer as they traveled together in search of a way to put a stop to the rogue god. During this time Solas taught Ren the art of paper folding and Ren picked up much of Solas’ magical abilities.

Sylvia Perce: Solas’ biological mother. The two have a very odd relationship, as Solas was never raised around other humans or elves. Not only that, but the first time he met Sylvia was through a weird fever dream and the second time he met her she’d been turned into a wraith and unable to communicate with him. Still, he managed to get pretty close with Sylvia in their short time together. She taught him a lot about how his magic worked and granted him with quite a bit of new spells.

Pierce “Tilvet” Perce: Solas’ younger biological brother. After Solas got sealed away for the second time his parents ended up having another child. Nearly 4000 years later not only had that child achieved godhood, but he’d also managed to revive Solas and bring him out of the urn. The two’s relationship is fairly strained. At first Pierce kept their biological relationship a secret. There’s a lot of secrets in their relationship, but perhaps it’s better that way.
