As shapeshifters, sippers are capable of changing their appearance in ways that are not common ('natural') for their species, these are classified as special features. These unusual traits usually only appear on the sipper's 'true' form after an event significant enough to change their core identity. For example, let's say a sipper spends years learning how to cook and eventually becomes known far and wide for their food, they may identify so much with their craft that it manifests on their physical body as food.

Depending on the setting that you're using your sipper in, special feature sets are treated with different rules/guidelines:

World Setting (In-Game)

Due to a shortage of magic during the events of the game, a sipper's abilities are more restricted to conserve energy. They mostly stay in their true/neutral form and as a result, features that aren't 'natural' (i.e. special features) need to be unlocked through in-game quests before they can be officially applied to the sipper's true/neutral form.

A sipper who was originally created as an official adopt or custom with special features included, won't need to earn the special features that they came with. They will still need to unlock special feature sets that they didn't come with, however.

MYO sippers, by default, won't  have any special features unlocked, they will need to be earned in order to apply them to a sipper's in-game appearance. (even if they're drawn with special features during MYO approval)

When a sipper does have access to a special feature set, it will be listed on its masterlist entry!

World Setting (Post-Game/Non-Canon)

After the events of the game (post-game), sippers are no longer quite as magically restricted and may develop special features more easily.

For this reason, sippers that are drawn in a post-game setting, as well as any non-canon setting in general, may freely make use of the special feature sets as they wish!

It isn't necessary to unlock special features in order to use them in this case, please go wild and have fun!

Once unlocked, a sipper has access to that entire category of features (not one at a time)

It's fine to:

  • unlock the set without actively using anything from it (having it on stand-by)
  • use any amount of features within a set as desired, you can use all at once or pick and choose whichever you want, at a given time
  • mix and match features from different sets that you have unlocked
  • create 'forms' that your sipper temporarily uses to suit different situations, such as a form when your sipper swims, when it's too hot or cold, during special occasions (like a dessert-themed form for parties), etc!

Details (such as the contents of each set) are subject to change!

No changes will ever be made that takes a feature away from a sipper owner (ex: if scales were to be moved to infernal, any sipper that is actively using scales would then have access to the infernal set in addition to keeping access to the aquatic set)
