history
⠀⠀⠀merlin was born with a non-functioning voice box, rendering him mute. he is capable of making slight vocalisations, but he refrains from doing so. his parents didn't quite know how to take care of a mute child, but they did the bare minimum to accomodate him before he left them at fourteen. because of this, merlin doesn't know any alternative forms of communication, and makes do with exaggerated guestures and some rudimentary signs. he is quite creative, and occasionally draws pictures in an attempt to communicate more complicated ideas. he wants to be able to trade stories with his plant friends, but he can't seem to capture the entirety of the tales in his drawings.
⠀⠀⠀ after leaving his family, he traveled for a short while, but he quickly realised that he wouldn't be able to fit in with those in towns or cities. he reluctantly decided it would be best to be as self-sufficient as possible, and set to work building a small cottage in the wilderness.
⠀⠀⠀ he lives in a fantasy world with magical plants, many of whom can talk. merlin tends to the plants around his isolated home, and they usually tell him many stories without much need for his communication. he's more fond of some plants than others, but he always makes sure to be kind to them before picking their fruit or leaves to cook.

⠀⠀⠀merlin is attuned to his surroundings, and can be very easily frightened by sudden movements or noises. he didn't have any animals for company before goose, consequently making him seem awkward and over-eager to most. he isnt always a great listener, often spacing out in the middle of a story, but if the talker is charismatic enough he will be enthralled by their words. he hates when he's talked down to, which is unfortunately a common occurence.
personality
goose and merlin met by chance, but merlin quickly saw himself in the child, and began to care for them. He doesn't exactly know how, but he tries his best.
on one of his ventures to the town, valencia attempted to rob him. The two went their seperate ways, but it seems they're not out of each other's lives yet.
