Lucas, the heir to the Coba Foods company, which is a big pokemon food Company in Unova, had always been more than content with whatever was handed to him and didn't really seem interested in reaching a goal of his own.

His grandmother, while not disliking her grandson, was of course not very appreciative about this lax attitude, not wanting the company to go to someone uninterested in what their line of work and without ambition. Which is why when he turned 18 and became of age, she convinced his parents to send him off to a friend's farmlands and ranch over in Kalos.

Lucas, never having gone on a pokemon journey or anything suddenly found himself on a skiddo and Gogoat ranch, needing to work hard and needing to get close to larger and more intimidating pokemon to complete his work- Which in turn made him realize that those things are pretty dang intimidating and perhaps even scary.

He doesn't give up though, not that he has much of a choice if he wants to return to Unova at some point. So he keeps going on, getting better with things little by little and finally discovering the world for himself.
