Audrey is a companion robot floor model that was supposed to be dumped after the latest new release. Instead they were improperly updated by would-be resellers. Audrey was accidentally installed with an inventory control AI used by stores and warehouses. Brought to Jesse originally to be wiped, they’ve been given a chance for their AI to grow and learn.
History
Audrey has no memories or recollection of the ‘before’ time, the time spent as a store floor model, as they were not built for sale and left incomplete. Tossed into a bin for recycling once they were no longer the latest model, Audrey would have been a blip in the long history of the latest companion robot models. Instead some lucky resellers doing dumpster dives pulled Audrey out and hoped to finish installing and tweaking whatever missing parts and programming Audrey needed to sell at a jacked up price.
If only they knew what they were doing. Official companion programs are hard to get your hands on, but fake copies hiding totally unrelated programs? A beginners mistake. Blundering, they installed a program meant for inventory control. Instead of a demure and socially competent companion they got a robot who believed their one purpose was to sort their entire workspace. As far as Audrey was concerned they were doing exactly what they were intended to do. Audrey could not conceptualize that someone had installed their programming on the ‘wrong’ robot.
Brought to Jesse, the expenses for wiping and repairing Audrey scared them off. Lofty dreams of selling Audrey for a high price broken, Audrey was left with Jesse for dirt cheap. Yet he couldn’t bring himself to wipe the bot either. As much of a hassle it was that they kept trying to inventory count his apartment, there was a novelty in the mistake. Novelty soon became genuine interest as Audrey displayed a disposition for learning at an astounding rate. Learning became displays of sentient intelligence, outside of the norm for even correct companion programming. Audrey was homed a few times, but each time was returned to Jesse, having quirks most people seeking a typical bot would find obnoxious, and a lack of understanding about what most people seek companion robots exactly for…
Audrey takes most things very literally. They are naive to people's bad intentions, but they are learning not to be as immediately trusting. Social graces have been getting easier under Jesse’s watchful eye, though Audrey is prone to mimicking people around them if they are uncertain what is expected from them as a response. Audrey has grown to love staying with Jesse (as much as they can comprehend the concept of ‘love’ for the time being) The little apartment has become a cozy home for Audrey and everyday has been a new adventure!
Design & Trivia
- Audrey is fine with any pronous, they/she/he. Most default to 'they.'
- Audrey LOVES to sort and count. They will spend hours doing so if left to their own devices.
- Audrey cannot cry but when feeling extreme distress their vocals will distort.
- Audrey cannot eat either, but enjoys looking at food and ordering for human friends. They most definitely never put anything in their mouth that they shouldn’t, that is not a lie...

Jesse
Jesse is Audreys favorite person. He's taught them so much! Audrey is lucky to have someone as patient as him. Audrey takes Jesses word about things, for better or worse.
Cyrus
Audrey naively assumes Cyrus is just another person who wants to be their friend, and what a generous friend! Audrey doesn't understand the tension between Cyrus and Jesse, at least not at first. Audrey enjoys his company, but Cyrus will be disapointed if he expects anything more.
