ABOUT

When first meeting the guy, Kei’s uneasiness can be felt in waves.

Try as he might to keep a smile on his face, he’s a bundle of nerves that cares too much about others’ opinions. First impressions are make or break for him. If he fails it’s a high chance that he’d try hard never to interact with the other person again, lest he’d face their judgement on his idiocy.

If he passes though, the other will be met with a strange abundance of energy for someone so skittish.

Kei’s incredibly friendly, the support role fitting him to a T. One would think the initial interaction was just him being nervous around new people. As a friend he’s at their beck and call whenever they need help with something. A lot of the time he’ll fix something that’s broken, or offer gadget ideas that would improve their prowess in anything. Sometimes these ideas even come unwarranted; he’s easily inspired by how cool the people he deems as his buddies are. He keeps all his ideas in a journal that he protects with his life.

Beyond the tech he’s just a guy who has no problem with carrying the conversation and listening both. He can be equal parts hype man and shoulder to cry on (if one doesn’t mind his short stature when doing so). Kei never runs out of words to say, sure, but he has enough sense to realize when it’s time to listen. He just cares a lot for the people he’s close to and will easily do whatever he can for them.

The doubt in himself still lingers though, and it’s laughably easy to bring up.

Despite his outgoing attitude, he crumples like a leaf the moment someone insults him. An avid over-thinker, he’s well aware of how weird, loud— rambles too much, can’t shut up, useless— he is so he avoids people who find him annoying. If he can’t avoid them though? Well, he sucks it up and doesn’t. He’s becoming a hero; a support at that, he can’t just ignore someone forever because he doesn’t like them.

Overall Kei tries to treat everyone the same but it’s obvious how he talks to people who’ve wronged him in some way. His smile is subdued. His eyes are more dim. He doesn’t crack as many jokes and doesn’t talk as much to them as he does his friends. He doesn’t hate the person, not really. Honestly he’s incapable of the feeling. Really he actively tries to be as tolerable as possible, so the interaction doesn’t end with someone crying (it’s usually him, he’s the crier in these situations).

He hides a lot of self-hatred behind his smile. There’s a sense of frustration when things go wrong that he rarely if ever lets loose in front of his peers, biting his tongue when he feels that whatever he says will have a worse outcome. Impressions mean everything, he’d rather be the jokester with no problems than have everyone turn on him because he said the wrong thing. As much as he doesn’t want anyone to worry though, Kei wears his heart on his sleeve. He’s always been a terrible liar.

QUIRK

REPLENISH

Kei’s quirk allows him to regenerate liquids and fine grains he comes to contact with with his hands. This ability, while simple, has many applications: refilling a glass of water, topping up a fuel tank, unlimited milk, you get the gist. His quirk works fastest with direct contact with the substance, the flow strong enough to propel it far before it experiences fall off. There’s also a small distance between his hands and whatever he wants to replenish that allows for his quirk to still work by holding on the item that contains it, perfect for when he doesn’t want to shove his hands in a bowl of hot soup.

As a side-effect, he can sense what a substance is made of once he touches it. This is only a vague idea though, as his knowledge is based on his own experience of what he’s already replenished. He won’t know something has vinegar in it until he can compare it to actually touching vinegar.

Due to this ability to tell apart components of a substance, Kei can target these specific parts instead of the substance as a whole. Most commonly he can dilute mixtures by creating an excess of water out of what already existed within it. In this way he can bypass the drawback of requiring exposure to the substance to replicate it at the cost of its integrity.

WEAKNESSES

Source: Kei needs a source to use his quirk on, he can’t make resources out of thin air even if it looks like he could. He needs at least one tablespoon of the stuff for his quirk to have any meaningful effect. He needs to stay in contact with the substance for the whole process, letting go stops it altogether.

Exposure: For his quirk to work, he has to have touched whatever he wants to replenish directly at least once, so his body absorbs and learns of its genetic makeup should he want to duplicate it in the future. Even a slight difference is enough to be considered "new" to him, he’s dipped his finger in several brands of soda that taste the same save for some ingredient that can’t be pronounced. This requirement bars him from replenishing dangerous substances like corrosive acids and toxins as he doesn’t hold any immunity that would protect him. He’s also unable to duplicate anything he’s never had direct access to, and given that he’s only a student, he doesn’t have access to a great many things.

  • The only exception to this is if Kei targets part of the substance instead of all of it. As long as he's had exposure to the one part, he can replenish it, though the solution as a whole would change because he increased the concentration of the one part.
  • It takes precision though. Given that this is a new ability Kei's learning to use, he can only do this if the component makes up at least 50% of the mixture.

Viscosity: How well his quirk works is entirely based on how thick the solution is. Free-flowing liquids like water are fine for him to replenish and is the fastest for him to reproduce, but thicker substances like honey take more time and energy to produce more of. The thickest substance he can replenish is chocolate syrup (25,000 cps, the unit of measurement for viscosity), anything thicker takes so long to create and so much of his stamina that using his quirk on it is not worth it for him at this stage.

Energy usage: Creating those resources seemingly out of thin air does take up his energy. While the amount of energy is negligible when refilling a drink, continuous usage gives him symptoms of low blood sugar like lightheadedness, fatigue and anxiety. Tremors start to set in after five turns of constant use of his quirk with his support gear or when he just needs to generate a lot of something, after which he has to rest for two else he’d risk passing out.

Alright, let’s see what you got!

TRIVIA

  • Writes all his ideas in a journal. He protects it with his life.
  • Always has toothpicks on him. He chews on them to prevent himself from biting his lip.
  • A horrible liar, Kei can’t hide how he’s currently feeling to save his life. He tries to anyway with shaky smiles and a wave of his hand.
  • Fixes things for the price of the parts used. He knows he could profit off his work but he also knows people be broke af so this is the least he can do to lighten others’ burden.
  • Has claustrophobia. He avoids closed spaces, opens windows when he can and mildly panics when he hears something get locked.
