APPEARANCE

The first thing most would notice about Lavender is that she is absolutely huge - bigger than pretty much any cat who crosses her path (see comparison in references tab). She's also very fluffy, especially around her neck, cheeks, and tail. Her ears are tufted, and she has one patched pawpad. She is a tortoiseshell cat made up of golden-browns, with a pale underside, muzzle, spots, paws and various other marks on her body. Lavender has purple eyes.

Her left ear is torn and she has claw-mark shaped scars scored across her left flank. Her most prominent scar is the cause of her death and so only appears in her ghost form - one long scar from above her left eye, down her face and chest until her belly. Her claws and teeth are huge, and sharp.

Design notes
  • body is symmetrical, except her legs
  • patches/spots can be semi-random when drawn
  • the patches don't have to be exact, but are still in the same general places (same with spots/freckles)
  • see ref sheet here)
  • if drawn when alive, flank scars are the same colour as nose/ears. if dead, all scars are black.
  • is BIG and FLUFFY - fairly stocky too. overall just a big girl
Personality

Lavender tends to keep to herself, generally only interacting with others when she'll benefit. She'd rather die (a second time) than admit any loneliness she feels; after all, in her experience, feelings only ever drag you down. She generally comes off as cold and cruel, suspicious of whoever she interacts with and seemingly content to do what she needs to survive, even if that means hurting others. Most cats wouldn't dare step within her radius, with her usually being bigger, scarier, and more ruthless than they'd like. And after her death, this demeanor only hardens with her belief that had she not acted with her heart rather than her head, she wouldn't have died.

Of course, Lavender wasn't born standoffish and intimidating. As a child she still had her cold confidence and aloof sort of nature, but feelings weren't something to be repelled at all costs, and Lavender wasn't so afraid to love - love her mother, even make friendships with her fellow kittens. A victim of circumstance, Lavender's response to the events she endured was to repress those emotions she felt were to her detriment, and build up her walls tall and strong. Behind those protections, Lavender isn't all thorns and claws. She often finds herself deeply lonely, left to face her own emotions alone. Those are often of guilt and hatred, with her feeling like she's caused and done awful things that lead to a deep resentment of herself and what could've been. To her, she deserves the punishment of the Place of No Stars. But despite what she feels, Lavender's heart isn't stone - there's the strong love and intense loyalty to those she cares about, the stubborn, determined nature she gives to her goals, and her strong sense of justice that can still be found if you look past the callous front she puts on.

Despite having few connections, those she does have are generally close and she's incredibly loyal to them. She values the friends she has an incredible amount, and thinks that cats who betray or hurt their loved ones on purpose are the scum of the earth basically

History

[wip] Lavenderkit is born to Fallowsong and Vice - a Clan cat and renowned rogue that her clan has sworn as their enemy. Like Lavenderkit, the clan doesn't know this, and when pressed by her clanmates Fallowsong says that Lavenderkit's father is their late clanmate Shiverstep. Lavenderkit adores her mother - having no siblings to socialise with and having some trouble making friends, she spends a lot of time with her. So when, during her apprenticeship, it's discovered that Vice is Lavenderpaw's real father, cats are in uproar and Fallowsong is exiled from the clan. To her mother's protests, Lavenderpaw swears she'll stay with her no matter what and leaves the clan with Fallowsong.

With no clan not being against Vice, Fallowsong feels they can't go join another and decides to travel to find solace in the streets of twolegplace. While Lavenderpaw's faith is shaken that StarClan would let something so awful happen to her dear mother, Fallowsong assures her that as long as they try and be good cats and don't hurt anyone, StarCLan will aid their path. They arrive at twolegplace, and with the constant competition and ruthlessness of the street cats Fallowsong and Lavenderpaw struggle to survive, as much as Lavenderpaw tries to help her mother. As a last resort, Fallowsong decides to seek out Vice himself and try and ask for his help - he has power here, and he might be able to help them. Fallowsong goes alone, fearing for her daughter's safety as she's not sure how Vice will react, especially hearing that he has a kit.

Lavenderpaw is scared for her mother in turn - she's only ever heard the stories of Vice's bloody past - and secretly follows her from a distance behind. It takes a while for Fallowsong to convince Vice's allies to get an audience with him, but she manages to do so. In a desperate plea, Fallowsong begs for his help, telling him about his daughter and that they're struggling to survive, and she's not sure how long she can keep Lavenderpaw safe. Vice isn't happy, enraged by Fallowsong reappearing after their not so tasteful parting only to demand for his help, and help with a child, no less - he kills Fallowsong, and Lavenderpaw watches in horror from afar.

Lavenderpaw is horrified, devastated, and angry. She's angry at Vice, at her old clan, at herself, at StarClan - she forsakes her Clan name, deciding to go by Lavender only. Stuck in twolegplace with no one to turn to, she internalises her feelings of grief. Lavender grows up doing what she needs to in order to survive, creating something of a name for herself among the streets as someone perhaps more ruthless and cruel and intimidating than most cats there. She never lets anyone too close - after all, her mother, the one she cared about and loved the most, was exiled because of her, went hungry because of her, is dead because of her. Being alone suits her, anyway, and with no attachments, she has no qualms hurting and even killing others if it means she gets what she needs (and the power's kind of nice!). Sometimes her mother's words about not hurting others and being a good cat ring in her mind, but that was about StarClan, and StarClan doesn't care about good cats, anyway.

In all her years in twolegplace, she hasn't really paid attention to the chatter among other cats, but when she overhears some talk about Vice coming back to the neighbourhood, having gone away somewhere when she was younger, Lavender decides to make the most of it. As his gang starts filtering back in, she seeks out his allies and asks for an audience with the tom. His right hand sees Lavender's size and strength, and makes a deal that if she kills the leader of a rival group that's been threatening their return, she can see him. She does so, and brings their body back, demanding to see Vice. She enters Vice's hangout to meet him, and when she's sure they're at their most alone she attacks him. He calls his crew and they go to attack her, but not before she manages to wound Vice badly. She's dragged away by the gang of cats and pinned down, despite her size and fury powering her on. Powerless against the group of cats crowding on her, she's killed with the scar from her eye to chest. She lies there as her blood spills out, and curses herself for allowing herself to act on her resentment and her care for Fallowsong. She wakes up in the Dark Forest.

Lavender loved Flutterbreeze when she thought she wouldn't ever love again.

She watches her reincarnation, Flutterpaw, whenever she can - Lavender misses her immensely but is proud to see her happy.

It took some time, but Lavender grew to treasure Hazeltuft as one of the few trusted friends she's had. She was helping Hazeltuft for Flutterbreeze initially, but slowly grew to enjoy his company. The two are often seen together and she respects his bravery.

mother †

Lavender hasn't spoken to her mother since she died when Lavender was a child - but she misses her greatly. Since she was a kit, she adored Fallowsong, even joining her when she was exiled from their Clan. Lavender isn't sure what she would say if she saw Fallowsong again. She's not sure if she even wants to.
