☆ About

The Roman Empire's new dictator- successor to the old Julius Caesar- is just about as evil as you'd imagine. While the Romans already had a history of villainy, Caligula's reign so far has proven to be chaotic and irrational, too. The new Caesar certainly is dedicated to reclaiming the Empire's former glory and "spicing up" the decadency that the Romans have long been known for.

☆ Appearance

Caligula has wavy golden-brown hair, green eyes, and a handsome face. His eyebrows are very dark, sharp, and rounded. and his face shape is pretty angular. It's very rare for someone to see him not smiling. His hair is very, very fluffy, and pretty long, reaching the back of his neck easily. He has full lips. In contrast to his being a terrible person, he's actually very, very attractive. He has an incredibly creepy voice. Caligula's habit is to usually talk in a monotone that has a few words he exaggerates and draws out way too much in every sentence, and he sometimes slips into a sing-songy voice. He really likes to sing, so it's not unusual for him to just break out into weird old showtunes (à la "Singing in the Rain" in a Clockwork Orange) and scare everyone around him.

Caligula is most often seen in his gangster uniform, more likely than not wearing the golden laurel that all Romans have. If not, he has a very high sense of fashion, mostly wearing expensive prep clothes, like Ralph Lauren.

☆ Personality

Caligula is a depraved, awful person. As the new leader of the Romans, he presents himself as a mad-with-power gang leader, complete with the old Caesar's reputed bloodlust, and a god complex. He lacks any real sense of empathy or sympathy, save for one or two people- he takes what he wants, regardless of how it'll make anyone feel, even his teammates, or now, subordinates. He's extremely full of himself and sadistic. He puts himself above anyone else. He loves to inflict pain on other people just because he wants them to be miserable. In fact, if you ask someone what their first impression of him is, nowadays they would describe him as a stereotypical evil villain. He acts very, very campy. He's utterly amoral.

Most of his odd behavior is actually him attempting to do some weird approximation of how most people act. His vocal tendencies, manner of speaking, and even his expressions are all exaggerated since, naturally, he doesn't show much emotion. Since it's so faked, it comes across as really creepy- to some degree, he might know that no one would find his mannerisms realistic or normal. He has the ability to pretend to not be quite as sadistic and awful as he usually is, and usually drops this front completely when he does. While like this, he is usually much more quiet and observant, keeping a stoic face and trying to gain information on the situation. He usually acts in this manner when he is being extremely manipulative. He very rarely acts kind, but when he does, it's usually in these cases where he is trying to get something he wants.

Due to Caligula being more wildly irrational than the old Caesar, he and the Romans have acquired a more widespread and expansive reputation for debauchery. Caligila regularly takes part in a number of devious practices with no real care for reprecussions.

☆ History

Caligula, prior to becoming a criminal, was actually part of a rather wealthy family from Scarsdale. He is the older brother of Alexander the Great, both being born to an over-medicated mother and a father so dedicated to his work he was always absent. He'd always been a rather needlessly mean child. Caligula at first despised his brother, this culminating in  an attempt to smother him when Caligula was six and Alex was four. Due to his status as the child of a more well-off family, his parents never suspected him of anything, and any chance of fixing Caligula's deep-seated problems completely dissipated, seeing him as a perfect son. Despite this incident, Alex still looked up to his older brother, and always wanted to be around him. As he grew older, his attitude towards his brother did a 180. He spent most of his time as a child between equestrian and country clubs, pulling off a number of Cruel Intentions-esque scenarios on acquaintances. Caligula reveled in ruining people's reputations at his private school, and making life living hell for them. Caligula and Alex eventually experienced a kind of miscommunication. This led to them getting into a terrible fight halfway through his junior year. Since then, Alex has harbored a faux resentment for him, although he very much misses him. During his time in high school, Caligula murdered an unknown amount of people in New York state. Most famously was his high school quarterback, a move that received national attention and earned him the nickname "the Scarsdale Slaughterer." No one but Alex knew it was him.

He joined the Romans pretty early on in their career, but after their departure from the Royal Imperium. During this time, he kept his true personality under wraps, masking himself in his most manipulative manner. He was actually playing the long game. He tried his best to appeal to various Romans- namely, the surviving four, who were all bullied a substantial bit by the other Romans. He saw much talent in them, viewing them as reliable allies who would be seduced by any sort of kindness, and did various things to get them to warm up to him. Nero was the most loyal of all, and the only one Caligula became attached to. When Julius took over the gang as dictator, he began to suck up to him.

The Empire saw the most deaths out of any gang, and even saw a fairly long period of inactivity that lasted for a few years. While they had been making a comeback, the death of their leader, Julius Caesar, led Caligula to take charge a few months before Oedipus Rex appeared. Afterwards, he wasn't really placed in charge of the Romans- the event was more of a coup d'état on his part. The Romans, while never a truly trustworthy or kind gang, soon began to be known for their unchecked cruelty, and reclaim their former rank amongst the underground.

☆ Present Day

As badly put together as the Romans seem, it's hard to tell if tensions have truly risen in the gang since his dictatorship began. They have certainly become a force to be reckoned with again, however. They act in opposition to the other gangs that are a part of the Arthur-Merlin schism, the Conjure Cult and the Royal Imperium. They have practically no allies, but the only other gang they really fight often is Victory Disease. This is only because Victory Disease is located in the area between the Royals and the Romans, and also, because the Romans share colors with them. It's very petty.

At some point, after the Romans assault Hamlet pretty badly, Faust almost ends up killing Caligula. Much later on, they all participate in the fight against Grendel, as Oed reasons that, if Grendel destroys Manhattan, they'll go down with them anyway.

☆ Relationships

ALEX [ brother ]He has a complicated relationship with his brother. Alex is currently very upset with Caligula, as they had a falling out sometime during high school. Although Caligula attempted to kill him at a young age, they became very close as they grew up- perhaps too close. While Caligula is definitely the worse of them, they are both awful people, and enjoy making other people suffer. Alex is the only person in his entire family Caligula cares for.
NERO [ minion->boyfriend ]For some reason, Nero pines for Caligula's attention mercilessly. He's extremely obsessed with him. He works as both his right-hand man and as some evil henchman/minion who is totally enamored. Nero has the habit of making super weird comments, like saying Caligula is his "savior" and that he would die for him, but Caligula does not find this strange at all- in fact, he believes he deserves this attention. Caligula's feelings for him are very obscure, but he values him as one of his most reliable subordinate. Caligula regards Nero as the "only interesting person" he knows.
ELAGABALUS [ lackey ]He usually tries his best to butter up Caligula. He loves all the horrible things he does, and really wants attention from Caligula, if only due to him being the boss. While Caligula is not too attracted to Elagabalus, he still regards him kind of well.
CARACALLA [ lackey ]He respects him, but also alternates between idealizing and devaluing him. Caracalla is very scared of him, most of the time. He only gets upset when he feels trapped by Caligula, which is more often than you would think. Caligula thinks he is weak, but still valuable.
DIOCLETIAN [ rival ]He and Caligula are kind of at odds with each other a lot. Sometimes the things Caligula does disgusts him. He also believes that Caligula killed Julius, and is suspicious of him because of this. Caligula is very wary of Diocletian in turn, realizing that he is definitely the most likely to turn on him.
HAMLET [ ??? ]Hamet is both an enemy of Caligula and someone who sleeps with him. Hamlet is one of the only non-Romans that Caligula can see semi-regularly, despite them being from rival gangs, and he takes advantage of the fact that Hamlet is not used to such cruelty. Although Hamlet will deny it since he says he wanted it, the Romans have basically assaulted him.

☆ Trivia

∨ Caligula likes musicals, but usually only old ones. Things with Gene Kelly and Judy Garland, usually. Sometimes he's called the Vaudevillain. The only contemporary composer he likes is Duncan Sheik- who he has stalked. He LOVES to sing.

∨ He is fluent in Latin. While it is a habit of most Romans to know a good degree of the language, which they use often as slang, Caligula is extremely proficient in it.

∨ He has a pet Boa Constrictor named Incitatus. He dislikes this about himself, but he really loves animals. In particular are horses, which he adores riding.

∨ Caligula is the current King of Diamonds, a title created and originally held by Julius Caesar. After his "untimely death," it was passed on to him as the new dictator.
