jascha

she had never quite liked the word "curse".

that wasn't to say it was a blessing, either.
being able to see those who had already died, to hear the empty thrum of their deadened pulse. to feel their oily bodies brush across her skin like slick eels in murky water. no, this was not a blessing.

she felt like the term gifted would be more appropriate. it was a gift, albeit a gift she hadn't asked for; one she kept hidden; bitterly, and as best she could.

spirit mediums were not uncommon in her area; in fact, most of them embraced their gift and went on to use their powers to aid them in their careers or to seek personal advice from the deceased. however, jascha was a bit different - instead of being able to summon ghosts to speak to her, she had the ability to see them at all times.

they were everywhere, on every surface, their slippery, mostly-dissolved shadows gurgling at her and touching her with every step she took.

she hated them. but she was never one to feel sorry for herself. so instead she sprinkled salt on her doorstep and swept her floors on the hour, hushing anyone who dared allow the word "curse" slip from between their lips.

the medium

name: jascha

alignment: neutral good

positive traits: gentle, sympathetic, tactful

negative traits: weak-willed, secretive

age: 19

height: 190 cm (6'3")

complexion: dark & freckled

hair: maroon & straight

eyes: dark brown

other notable characteristics: large rabbit-like ears

name origin: jascha was named after the famous violin player, jascha heifetz (prounounced ya-sha). she loves her name and dislikes when people misspell it or pronounce it incorrectly.

jascha is a spirit medium and is able to see and interact with spirits even without a physical form. she has received no formal or informal training on her abilities as she has had them since birth and is therefore somewhat weak in said abilities and is often unsure how to use them. she lacks the ability to see ghosts in their full forms, seeing instead dissolved shadows of what they truly are. being unable to turn her abilities "off", she keeps a rosary in her right pocket and a pouch of salt in her left, constantly uneasy from the knowledge she is never alone.
