Backstory

Izumi was born in a small house to a family with already one child – his older brother. In the next seven years, their mother gave birth to four more children, giving Izumi 5 siblings in total.

The family didn’t have a lot of money, and whatever they had was not enough to take care of six children. The parents weren’t very interested in taking care of them either. They mostly took care of the finances, as they thought that as long as there was food on the table and a roof above their heads, they were doing well. Izumi’s older brother ended up being responsible for his siblings, and when Izumi was 8, began helping his brother too.

Despite having four young children on his hands and non-involved parents, Izumi was very academically successful and graduated school with flying colours. His love for children made him choose an elementary school teacher as his profession, and when he was 18, he enrolled into a university with a scholarship. His older brother supported his ambitions and helped in any way he could, which most of the time was taking care of their siblings.

By the time Izumi was 22, their parents bailed, deciding that their parental duties are fulfilled and the two older brothers are fully capable of taking care of the kids. When Izumi was 23, he graduated uni and began working at a school.

He was very good with children – even though he wasn’t the most emotive person out there, he somehow always managed to make kids listen to what he says. His pupils always seemed to respect him and trust him. At the age of 25 finally had enough money to move out and get his place, but he still visited his siblings weekly and sent them money every month.

Izumi worked in his school for 11 years, until he was 34. One night, when he was coming home from work, he noticed one of his students getting assaulted. He immediately called the police and intervened, giving the kid a chance to escape and call for help, but got stabbed in the process. By the time help got there, Izumi was already dead.

Because of his love for children and a general caring nature, he got reincarnated as a guardian angel. He became a guardian for a newborn girl named Malina.

He watched her grow up, go through her crisis, and eventually settling down with appreciating what she has already. He couldn’t do much when she went to a rave, but he was the one that kept her safe through the trip – he took a corporeal form and pointed out to her classmate that she will need a watchful eye and a place to stay until she comes to her senses.

Personality

Izumi is a very stoic person. He doesn’t really react much to anything and has a neutral face most of the time. Some people would even say he looks done with everything. Despite that, he doesn’t really give off vibes like that, and as soon as you start talking to him, you’ll feel that he is a very kind and wise person who is always ready to help, with an advice, an act, or a simple hug. He gives the best hugs. He’s very understanding and tends not to judge people if he sees that they regret their bad actions and have a capacity to change.

He’s a man of few words. Doesn’t really speak much, unless he has actually something to say, but would hold a conversation with at least a few words. Cooking is one of his primary ways to show he cares.

Abilities

Besides the basic angel things, such as slight light manipulation/creating, limited teleportation, flight and mild healing abilities, he is also a water bender. When he was alive he didn’t use that power for a lot of things. He would sometimes use it in class to communicate with kids better and to entertain them. He is also incredible at cooking.

What is a guardian angel?

The purpose of a guardian angel is to make sure their ward lives until their natural death, to keep them safe from dangers and fatal accidents. They can’t reveal themselves or make their actions obvious. They also can’t have a say in how their ward behaves or what path they choose. For an angel, the only concern should be their safety. However, angels have the ability to become corporeal and look like normal mobians. While it’s not allowed for angels to become close with the ward or people close to them, angels are allowed to physically intervene if the situation is dire and there’s a way to make their presence look natural.

 The angels are people who died and got reincarnated. To become a guardian a person has to be very selfless and caring. When an angel is born, all of their memories of their past lives are wiped.
