Introduction · · ·
A social butterfly, Emmett is rarely alone. He can usually be found out on the town or at social functions. He is the son of a New York senator and is ambling his way through law school, making connections all over the place. He is passionate and bold, making many of his positions clear to those around him. Of course, many of them are against his father's views.

Personality · · ·
Emmett is a very extroverted person who thrives in social situations. He is passionate and bold, making his positions clear to those around him. He is rather emotional, making him someone who is very expressive and occasionally sensitive. He is a bit of a rebel and hates authority. He's caring and sincere about it, but it's not always obvious due to his social sphere and the way he tends to go about it. Emmett is surprisingly good at arguing, certainly something that has to do with his work as a lawyer. He is spontaneous, prone to making sudden choices or acting without thinking. He is also naïve despite his social adeptness, not knowing the true scope of the world or peoples' experiences. Emmett is a bit of a dandy who would take someone calling him that in stride.
Social butterfly
Emmett loves being around people and is very personable, spending most of his time around other people and being energized by it. The outgoing New Yorker knows no strangers.
Naïve
He likes to think he isn't, but Emmett can be quite naïve. He thinks he knows a lot more about the world around him than he actually does, and he often feels rather untouchable, causing him to be reckless.
Emotional
Emmett makes his emotions very clear whether he likes it or not, so it is generally easy to tell how he is feeling. That said, his extrovertedness can sometimes make his emotions pervasive.
Bold
Emmett is usually very confident and unafraid. He knows what he shouldn't do, but sometimes he may challenge that, intentionally or not. He can be a bit brazen at times.

Time has come for our journeys end; we arrived so young but we will leave as men. I'm convinced that life ain't fair. But I'm convinced our story gets shared.
Trivia · · ·
Backstory · · ·
Emmett was born in New York City to Angeline and John Bailey in 1792. John was a lawyer who secured a position as New York senator around the time that Emmett was born. He put a majority of his time into his work, making him largely uninvolved in his son's early upbringing. Emmett was raised by his mother and the Baileys' live-in nanny/nurse. Angeline was a strict, controlling mother, setting rules and standards that Emmett spent much of his time trying to live up to. He much preferred the kinder nurse, who provided a shoulder to lean on and a much better environment for a child.
Emmett was the Baileys' second child, his older brother Nicholas being the favorite.

In late 1815, Emmett and A.J. were in an established relationship. One day, the pair went to Emmett's room in the Bailey Estate. Emmett had not accounted for the fact that his father might come home earlier than expected—when Old Bailey came to visit, he caught the pair in a compromising position, to say the very least. He immediately called Emmett out, saying little to A.J. Scared for his own reputation being harmed by his son, Senator Bailey confronted Emmett, who then threatened to go public with Senator Bailey's past bribery and corruption if he or A.J. were outed. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, the senator decided that he'd send his son out west to "make him a man." Later, unbeknownst to Emmett, he decided to hire CPT Ulysses Lescouezec to kill Emmett on the way and blame Native Americans for the murder.
In the time since Senator Bailey caught Emmett and A.J., Emmett has had little to no contact with A.J. The latter completely cut himself off, terrified of damaging his reputation and progress. Neither are sure if they're still in a relationship.
In 1816, Emmett is forced to set out for St. Louis and meet with the fur traders taking him to a fort in Montana. He is accompanied by Ulysses, who is supposedly his "bodyguard" that is planning to take a post at the fort.

Emmett and A.J. met in law school, where they slowly became friends. as A.J. became more popular, Emmett was nothing but excited to help him in the social realm of things. Proving that opposites attract, the two recently became a couple. Emmett's father's discovery of their relationship severed their contact completely as A.J. retreated into his work, so their relationship is currently very unsure. Emmett often finds himself thinking of A.J. on his way to Montana.
Atwood initially kind of intimidates Emmett (though Emmett doesn't really show it), but that fades very quickly. He certainly notices that Atwood seems almost wary of him, but eventually they get on good terms. Emmett is very friendly with Atwood and they grow to be close friends despite being on near opposite ends of the introverted-extroverted spectrum. He likes to mess with Atwood.
From the start, Emmett felt like Des didn't really like him. He was intimidated by her, especially because of how quiet she was around him. He attempts to go out of his way to befriend her at times, but it doesn't work. They eventually get on very good terms as Emmett learns her boundaries, and he has a sense of respect for her.
Emmett tries his hardest to get along with Ulysses, and it seems to work, as the soldier tolerates him. He doesn't like it when Ulysses pulls the authority card, of course. He never quite detects the fact that Ulysses wants(? needs?) to kill him.
