Personality

MBTI: ISTJ-T (Introverted | Observant | Thinking | Judging | Turbulent) - “The Logistician”

Most of the time, Kaguya can seem like a rather stoic and serious girl, but is able to open up to people she deems trustworthy. However, since she makes it a habit of always maintaining a polite demeanor towards almost everyone and doesn't usually openly show anger, it can sometimes be difficult to tell how she truly feels about others. She does have a noticeable soft spot for her best friend Chazz and her older brother Kazuya, though, and will typically let herself act a bit more lively and informal around them.

Despite her usually calm attitude, she has shown to display some moments of unease and anxiety whenever her past music career is brought up, as that time of her life caused her much stress and unhappiness. Because of this, she has developed a fear of performing music in front of others, and can now only enjoy the activity that she loves when she is alone.

When it comes to Dueling, Kaguya is calm and a clear thinker who tries to take in as much as she can from any Duel. While still maintaining an aura of refinement, she does allow herself to occasionally smile when she is enjoying participating in or viewing a good Duel.

Kaguya is a white-skinned teenage girl with yellow cat-like eyes and waist-length midnight blue hair that she usually keeps tied in twin-tails with black ribbons. Her bangs are rather long, some of which are swept to the side, while the rest fall between her eyes. She also often likes to wear either a gold crescent moon-shaped or star-shaped hair ornament in her hair.

Compared to other girls her age, she is less developed than most and is often mistaken for a grade schooler at first glance since she is fairly short and looks deceptively young.

At school, she wears the standard Obelisk Blue uniform, though wears black, thigh-high stockings instead of regular socks. She also wears a black garter with her deck case attached around her upper thigh.

When not wearing the school uniform, she tends to wear mostly black clothing. One of her outfits is a black cold-shoulder turtleneck top with a dark blue pleated miniskirt, and black ankle boots with black, thigh-high stockings. She also wears a frilly black and white Gothic Lolita-style dress with detached black sleeves with white frills at the ends, black thigh-high stockings, a black garter with white frills, and black and white calf-length boots.

As she is left-handed, she wears an Academy-issued Duel Disk on her right arm while Dueling.

Voice
Japanese: Inori Minase | English: Emily Neves

Kaguya speaks softly and uses polite vocabulary and grammar almost all of the time. She has a reserved and somewhat monotone-sounding voice that rarely changes even when she’s happy, though she does make an effort to try to show a bit more emotion and liveliness when she’s around those she is close to and cares about.

Etymology

Kaguya’s family name is comprised of the kanji for “dark” (冥 mei) and “moon” (月 getsu), while her first name contains the character for “shining, sparkling, radiant” (輝 kagu) and “night, evening” (夜 ya). She is named after Princess Kaguya from the monogatari called The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.

Lore
“I will be your moon and shine on you in your darkest hour.”

Kaguya Meigetsu (冥月 輝夜 Meigetsu Kaguya) is an Obelisk Blue student at Duel Academy and duels with a Ritual-based "Lunatic" deck. She is the only daughter of two musicians, Yuu and Miyako Meigetsu, and the younger sister of Kazuya Meigetsu.

History

Kaguya comes from a wealthy and highly renowned family of musicians. She was known for her skills at playing the violin, considered by others to be a child prodigy. However, due to her parents' high standards and demands, she eventually grew to hate performing in public concerts and events, often getting anxiety attacks due to thinking she would never be able to live up to their or other people's expectations. Sensing her stress and discomfort, it was her older brother Kazuya who got her into Duel Monsters when she was six, teaching her how to play as a way to unwind and lighten up, and she quickly fell in love with the game.

While attending a social function with her family when she was eight, Kaguya met Chazz Princeton, a boy her age, and the two hit it off after bonding over a shared interest in Dueling and similar feelings of being pressured by their families. They soon became friends and would go on to see each other often throughout the years. Somewhere down the line, Kaguya started developing a crush on Chazz but has yet to fully admit or act on her feelings.

After a particularly bad anxiety attack after one of her concerts when she was eleven, Kaguya hit her breaking point and decided to give up her music career in favor of becoming a Duelist. When she did, she was met with disapproval from her parents, who practically disowned her for her decision. While their parents did not approve, Kazuya supported Kaguya full-heartedly, letting her move in with him and helping her enroll into Duel Prep School and then eventually Duel Academy by paying for her tuition so she could be free to pursue her dreams.

Abilities

Kaguya is an intelligent and insightful young woman who is a prodigious violinist and enjoys playing music as long as she doesn’t have to perform for an audience. She also has high marks in all of her classes and is very acrobatic, flexible, and has fast reflexes. As a Duelist, Kaguya is very skilled and well-versed in the deck she uses.

Deck

Kaguya uses a “Lunatic” Deck, which are made up of DARK female monsters and have a focus on Ritual Summoning. Her ace cards included “Lunatic Princess” and “Lunatic Dragon”.

Relationships
Best friend | Love interest

Kaguya is childhood friends with Chazz Princeton, first meeting him when they were children while attending a social event with their families. Although she thinks that their personalities can clash at times and sometimes has a problem whenever he acts too arrogant, Kaguya deeply values her friendship with Chazz and is rather protective of him, always willing to do what she can to make him happy. Kaguya knows that her feelings for him are more than platonic but she settles for keeping this to herself until she can be sure that her feelings aren’t one-sided. She will occasionally engage in subtle flirting with him, however, when she wants to try getting a reaction out of him, and she loves it when she can make him flustered.

Older brother

Kazuya is Kaguya's older brother by ten years. He adores Kaguya and supports her full-heartedly in everything she does, including wanting to be a Duelist. In turn, Kaguya loves and respects her brother greatly for always being there for her and caring about her feelings and considers him to be one of the most important people in her life.

Mother

Kaguya has always had a complicated relationship with her mother. A controlling and perfectionist woman, Miyako would treat her daughter as if she were a doll throughout her childhood, often dressing her up as she saw fit, and always expecting her to act obediently and be able to perform flawlessly at a moment’s notice.

Her mother’s overly high standards and expectations regarding her appearance and music caused Kaguya much stress and unhappiness while she was growing up, but she always tried her best in an effort to win Miyako’s ever-elusive respect and love. However, when she finally hit her breaking point and realized that nothing she did would ever be deemed good enough in her mother’s eyes, Kaguya made the decision to give up playing music professionally and focus on her own happiness for once by pursuing a career in Duel Monsters. Unsurprisingly, Miyako did not support Kaguya’s choices and became even more distant towards her as a result.

Father

Like with her mother, Kaguya has a strained relationship with her father. Yuu is a very strict man and an even harsher music instructor, always demanding perfection from his children and often pushing them to their limits both physically and mentally. Because of this, Kaguya has developed a fear of failing authority figures. While Kaguya admittedly respects Yuu as a fellow musician, she has a truly difficult time even acknowledging him as a parent.
