It's described as magic

An experience that cannot be matched

It's fulfilling, people say, like finding that last missing piece.

But when I've been presented with love

The intimacy, the vulnerability,

I feel displaced.

I feel as though every door in my house has been opened,

And every window has been stripped of their curtains

I live in fear of a mind believing that possession

equates somehow to that of love.

I give and give until I am a hollowed and empty shell,

torn for scraps and discarded like filth.

I breathe like mold spores and I sleep like sickness.

They have taken everything precious.

"I did not bow down to you," Dostoevsky wrote,

"I bowed down to all the suffering of humanity."

And perhaps my ideals, in all my

Russian existentialism, have brought me here.

I am hedonistic, and I am gutted.

I live to breathe and love in the only ways I know how,

and find myself gathering the metal scraps

and pulling up my ripped tights the next morning

when they rip my skin out with dog teeth and spit out the fat.

It means nothing. I mean nothing.

It's pathetic that I may suffer twice as much.

I fell into literature like stupidity and damned youth,

and reality scraped my rainbow soft insides and churned them into

product, like some factory that makes fake love.

I feel at fault for it, for all my femininity and my softness.

I feel like I let them tear me apart, that if only I sewed myself up

stronger, with better thread, that they might not have done as much damage.

I lie in all my soft things, and I sob,

thinking of teeth and sharpness and the decay of childhood.

I hate everyone and everything.
