The enemy of chaos is knowledge.
A powerful entity of unknown origins.
She goes by Eris, the name of the Greek goddess of chaos, discord and strife. It is likely, if not certain, that she is the exact entity the Greeks were referring to.
As a being of pure chaos, it is her nature to seek out order and dismantle it. She works most often from the shadows, her agents and influence a plague on whatever planet or people she targets. Her influence is far-reaching and diabolical.
Arguably; Eris is a function of nature itself. To each dark there must be a light and, in similar fashion, Eris too has an opposing force.
For Eris, her foil is knowledge.
After all, what is order but a sentient being's capability to make sense of the chaos around them? Broken down, all things are confounding messes of disjointed parts-- unless one knows how to put them together.
In that same way, Eris finds her greatest enemies to be the Ignosi--
Those beings on every planet, in every universe, who bear the compendium of all knowledge their people have accrued since their first sentient thought.
On Earth, that being had once gone painfully silent. Though not destroyed, the absence of the Ignosi led to discord, and Eris turned her sights elsewhere.
Until the Ignosi found a new host in Codex.
