Sputnik was one of many space exploration robots tasked with finding alien life. One night, sputnik received a signal from someone far in the galaxy, and they excitedly attempted to contact earth to pass the news that they had found extraterrestrial life. however, before they could do this, every other robot in space received a false signal similar to the one received by sputnik, the collective excitement of this caused a mass override of the systems keeping the robots functional, and sputnik was one of very few to survive. although they attempt to have their message passed on, its assumed by everyone that they received the false one, and they sometimes wonder if that's the case themself.
Sputnik is very passionate about space and misses it greatly. they can often be seen sitting on rooftops or flying around the sky, trying to get as close as possible to what was their home for so many years. Sputniks actual voice can only be heard over radio, and when speaking aloud they speak in a mix of actual morse code and random static noises, this makes them a bit frustrated, but those they talk to usually don't mind too much. the only point they're really confident in is space related matters, so in any other situation they usually just leave to avoid getting too overwhelmed.
