"I'm amazed that you've made it this far with a brain like yours."

Cold and calculative, Valentine will often mock others in a condescending or joking tone due to his incredible analytical skills. Thinking in steps ahead, he knows how to plan accordingly based on guestimates and probability of the given situation. Because he appears harsh and cold, most people tend to stay away from him in general regardless if he chooses to do harm or not. He tends to "bully" those whom he considers competition but surprisingly he has a soft spot for spirits and is more likely to show a natural, soft smile. That applies to a few select humans as well, but is not as frequent.

Fighting Style

Style: prefers to necromance over blood magic, but finds blood magic more convenient to use. Does not use his necromancy to resurrect individuals often as it requires a lot of "blood" and is more likely to summon other creatures and beings as familiars instead. Mid-range to long-range, he can set "blood traps" which he can then activate when the opponent comes closer. His speed and brute force are impressive but his defence is incredibly deficient. In events that he is forced to do close combat or when there is a lack of spilled blood, he will fight with his blood-claw gauntlets. If he can scratch or cut his opponent, he is then able to take advantage then. In dire cases, he will use his own blood.

His claw gauntlets have small slivers in them that retain blood if he so chooses. While this may be a small amount of blood that he can retain for up to a couple hours, it serves for last minute necromancy purposes or a makeshift defence. When there is no blood inside his gauntlets, the gauntlets appear to be a cold, metal black. Red ribbons run on the sides of his fingers are present when blood is available.

He is likely to be fighting behind the scenes as an advisor or second-in-command than anything else.

Necromancy: can resurrect individuals who are already spirits, but will prefer to resurrect if they still have some sort of connection to their old body, dying or dead. Will otherwise use his ability to see, touch, and talk to the dead, using them as familiars or messengers. He requires a tool to channel his energy into the earth and surrounding air, which he utilizes through the use of a black umbrella. His rituals are long and tedious, requiring a considerable amount of power and concentration (depending on the level of manifestation or resurrection), but usually are the most successful rituals among necromancers because of the time he puts in. This leaves him quite vulnerable as he cannot do anything else.

History

Valentine was appointed as Royal Advisor when he entered his early twenties, invited by a current Royal Advisor who found his cockiness, analytical skills, and alarming confidence to fit the necessary requirements of a soon vacating position. Originally aiming to be a lawyer, his superior attitude almost got him kicked out of school had it not been for the Royal Advisor. Valentine eventually was able to inherit the position, being the second youngest out of six.

As he moves around quite a bit for his position and responsibilities, he is often the most difficult to contact. His ability to perceive power moves usually can be backed up by the youngest Royal Advisor, who is a clairvoyant with miraculous accuracy. The country Yavierre is situated between neighbouring kingdoms and empires, such as Hystial and Araedon.

Growing Up

Growing up in a small village near the borders of Araedon, Valentine grew up in a primarily peaceful surrounding, learning immense amounts of information that he could possibly grab his hands on with his childhood friend. Aiming to be lawyers when they grew older, they promised each other to meet again when they got their accreditation, with their resolve growing stronger with the childhood friend's eventual move to the neighbouring country.

However, Valentine's father wanted him to focus more on being a necromancer upon finding out his talent, forcing him to learn anatomical bodies, biology, spiritual incantations and perceptions, and chemistry, away from his interests of law. Although not to his particular taste, Valentine accepted his father's demanding studies upon the realization that he could utilize the knowledge from the dead to help him succeed in his studies as a future lawyer.

The Childish War

After a few years of being accustomed to his new position as a Royal Advisor, a war broke out between two empires, pulling in their allies to fight along their sides. The Royal Council did not agree to this war, as the reasoning for the start was incredibly foolish and immature. As the war need only to be resolved with a conference, Yavierre's involvement with the war was minimal.

Tasked with dealing with Araedon who was allied with the opposing empire, insider information brought back sparked a devious plan inside of Valentine's mind. The insider information entailed that the responsible commander facing Yavierre was none other than his childhood friend.

Gambling on the fact that they knew each other so well when they were young, Valentine started to plant individuals inside the other's army to spill of some "secrets" to who was governing on Yavierre's side. In addition to this, Valentine drastically changed his plans on how he was going to handle current battle strategies. The drastic change in plans and rumours spreading around in Araedon's army soon reached the childhood friend's ears, allowing him to realize who was commanding on Yavierre's side.

Understanding that neither side wanted to be a part of this war, they calculated ways to cause an environmental disaster in the form of a landslide triggered by a man-made earthquake, taking advantage of the weak soil surrounding their borders. Triggering this environmental disaster allowed both Yavierre and Araedon to withdraw from the war, seeing that they had to meet with their own "destruction and casualties" as it was "deemed too grave to continue supporting the original warmongers". Although the reasoning sounded pitiful and not worthy of withdrawing to the originators, they decided to let them go as both empires are small in size compared to their own.

After both empires had withdrawn their forces from the meaningless war, a handful of kingdoms and empires followed suit, seeing no point in providing services to a pitiful perception of an event. The two empires instigating the war were forced to end the war due to their shortage of supplies and lack of manpower.

Aftermath

Not much changed from before the war and after the war; Yavierre was able to rekindle its relationship with Araedon, and the two originators of the war apologized, redistributing their own remaining wealth to recover in lost production and livelihoods. No spoils were found after the war, nor was any kingdom or empire looking forward to it.

Trivia

His mother is a blood mage while his father is a necromancer. When his mother gave birth to him, his parents joked about how he could inherit both their abilities but gawked when they found out he did.

He has a younger sister who is a whole lot more proficient in blood magic, but can perform super basic necromantic events. While Valentine may be significantly better overall in terms of magic prowess, his sister can control people regardless if they are cut or not.

Learned countless anatomical bodies of living creatures to hone his accuracy for his necromantic rituals. As a result, this increased his success rate, but will flip back to his texts to refresh his memory constantly.

If he licks your blood, he can find out your blood type and what you've been eating or doing in the past 24hrs.

Valentine has a familiar that is constantly at his side. Octavia is her name, and it was Valentine who approached her first. She never truly remembered what her regret was until Valentine dies of old age, unfortunately.

Osiris Rey

[ lover ] Growing up in the same village, Valentine would test Oz's wits, teasing and challenging him to try harder in both to kill time and to help him aspire to be something. When they parted ways after Oz had moved, they slowly began to lose contact, but their relationship rekindled after the war. Often times Val would visit Oz in the neighbouring empire whenever he had the free time, and eventually Oz would come to visit him too. They understood that, despite their busy lives, perhaps something could come out of their... special relationship.

Val had always been particularly soft on Oz which often surprises people, and although he may treat Oz harshly at times, he does consider his faults, he is sure to remain open to communication before, during, or after. He often makes up for his rash behaviour, dependent on the situation and what was involved.
