Story Summary

Athena was born on June 3rd, 1993 in the city of Athens, Greece (hence her name) to her parents, Troy and Rita Vasiliou.  The family moved from Greece to the United States when Athena was only a toddler, so she doesn't remember much of her first home, although she takes pride in embracing her heritage. 

Being her parents' first born and only child, she was the apple of their eyes.  She grew up well loved and cared for, albeit a tad sheltered, and was considered very gifted and smart.  She was home schooled the majority of her childhood via online classes and her mother's tutoring, and was a star student.  She didn't have many friends or acquaintances as a child and was mainly in the company of her parents, which does contribute to her social issues later on in life.

Her mother was a doctor, and her father a highly skilled assassin, which was kept secret to the outside world.  Athena knew of her father's double life and wasn't comfortable with his line of work, but it was never really discussed among the household.  Overall though, they were a very content, seemingly normal family.  However, this would all take a turn for the worse.  

Not long after Athena's 18th birthday, Athena's family was ambushed while out taking care of classified business regarding her father's agency.  The attack was unexpected and savagely violent, and both her mother and father were brutally murdered.  She managed to escape mostly unscathed, save for an ugly gash across her face, which would later leave a permanent scar along her right eye.  

Now completely alone and having no where else to turn, her father's agency graciously offered her care...in exchange for her work efforts.  She reluctantly agrees and is given housing, and is soon trained to follow in her father's footsteps as a skilled assassin.  Although she doesn't approve of this way of life and is often ridden with guilt, she feels that she owes it to her family and hopes to avenge their deaths.  

Several years later and she is still searching for her parents' killers, with little success.  She never speaks of the horrific events that leaves her feeling empty and a shadow of her younger self, and she desperately longs to have a happy, normal life someday, but she worries that she will never make it that far.

Relationships

Alaric Grimsbro [ it's complicated ] Alaric and Athena have a complicated relationship.  They met when, thanks to Alaric, Athena lost her intended target and failed a mission.  An argument followed, and they have been at each other's throats ever since.  They almost never get along, and go out of their way to piss each other off whenever they can.  She can't stand his snarky, overly confident personality and often vows to never see his face again, but he somehow always finds his way back into her life.  Due to his manipulative behavior and her strong desire to get one over him, they often...end up spending the night with each other, which she inevitably ends up regretting.

Kylar O'Reilly [ utterly in love with ] Athena met Kylar while he was on a trip to the states.  They hit it off almost immediately, with Kylar's warm smile and cheerful, kind demeanor practically drawing her in like a magnet.  They met again some months later while she was on a trip to Ireland for a mission, where he offered her a place to stay.  But she remained there longer than she originally intended, after he showed her a quieter, brighter way of life that she never thought she would experience.  It was during this time that she began to fall for him, although she is too afraid to admit it.  After returning home, she realizes that she wants to spend her life with him, and promises that she will return soon.  However, due to an                               overwhelming fear of putting him in harm's way and guilt of what she's done, she has yet to keep that promise.  She misses him                                                       dearly though, and continues to have contact with him whenever she can.

Demetrius Locke [ unsure ] Athena met Demetrius around the same time she met Alaric.  They share the same hatred for Alaric, but other than that, they don't have much in common.  She finds Demetrius intimidating, and for a while isn't sure if he can be trusted.  However, after learning more about his past, she grows sympathetic and understanding of him and his behavior, and her attitude towards him softens.  Though they don't come into contact very often, she views him as a kind of father figure, but she still has a hard time letting her guard down around him.

Piper Hawthorne [ Friend (with benefits) ] Athena and Piper met after Athena housed Piper for a time while she was on the run and in hiding from the police, and their relationship quickly develops into casual friends.  They have similar personalities and lifestyles, and they get together every now and then at one of the local bars to talk about their troubles over drinks and try to give each other life advice.  On occasion, these get togethers also turn into drunken one night stands.

Brielle Rinaude [ unsure ] Athena met Brielle when she joins the secret assassin agency, and Athena is asked to take her in as an apprentice.  Athena is apprehensive about this, as Brielle is young- only being 18 at the time of her arrival at the agency.  However, she proves to be an extremely fast learner, and Athena is impressed by her skills.  But as she continues to improve, it also becomes apparent that she is naive and extremely easy to manipulate.  She falls in with the wrong crowd (AKA Alaric), much to Athena's dismay, and Athena becomes angry and hostile, worrying that she can't be trusted.  After some time, Athena starts to regret her behavior towards the girl, and although they haven't spoken in quite a while,                               she hopes that she is doing alright.

Mitchell Caine [ Acquaintance ] Athena and Mitch have only met briefly, so they do not know each other very well.  During their first meeting, Athena attempts to buy a new blade from him, only to find out that the blade was stolen from none other than Alaric himself.  Athena warns him of this, and after an encounter with Alaric, she ends up saving Mitch's life and returning the blade to the blonde bastard.  She thinks that he is a bit of a cocky airhead, but not necessarily a terrible person, and wouldn't mind going out for drinks with him every now and then.
