In folklore, Berhantu (1846) is purported as an ill-looking horse, who's said to have been born with Lethal White Syndrome (a genetic disorder that should have taken his life as a newborn foal) but was possessed by an ancient spirit, cursing him to live eternally. Though usually the spirit sleeps, it is very powerful when it awakens and posesses its host, and can be recognized by the white eyes, floating mane/tail, and near-black blood coming out of the mouth/nose/eyes and showing through the veins. Due to his unnatural state and age, he carries an off-putting scent, and the wounds around his troth and face are slowly spreading.

His breath was said to sicken livestock, wilt crops and some even blame him for spreading plague, however Berhantu himself (when the spirit is inactive) isn't thought to be malevolent.

Description

Alleged observations and stories describe Berhantu as a gaunt and sickly looking horse, affected by LWS (pink skinned; resulting in a pure white coat, blue eyes, white eyelashes, pale hooves) and roughly 1.77 metres tall. Some say he looked emaciated and surrounded by bugs, but accounts describing the details are slightly inconsistent. He's said to have scars -or wounds- around his neck and face, similar to burn marks, exposing the flesh. Appears to have decayed insides due to his unnatural age, blood is thick and dark, almost black. He has a rough, scruffy mane and tail, light feathering on legs and cracked hooves. Eyes are naturally blue but are affected by cataract, making them appear cloudy.

When the spirit is woken, he bleeds through his nose, eyes and mouth, and his eyes roll back completely. Veins become visible, mane and tail start to float.
