Lian Goldberry

Early Childhood

Lian can't remember much of his early childhood. He only recalls the gentle faces of his parents, fear, and sitting in a dark basement with his sister, waiting for something horrible to pass. Everything else is blurry or information he gathered years later from second hand sources.

He grew up outside the four kingdoms in a small village on the continent of Anima, far away from Mistral. There he lived a simple life with his parents and his little sister Myst. While his father worked as a carpenter in an old workshop Lian loved to visit, his mother looked after the house and helped on the fields the community used for farming. Unfortunately this peaceful life was soon to be over. After multiple disasters hit the community, such as bad harvest, natural disasters and disappearances, unrest arose. Soon, the small community of Faunus inside the village were accused of being responsible. The Faunus were tolerated inside the settlement, but never fully accepted by the human majority.

Finally this hostility cumulated into open conflict, with the goal to focibly drive the Faunus out of the village in the hopes of ending this string of unfortunate occurances. As the negative emotions rose and violence arose, the moment seemed more than perfect for Grim to strike, too. Using the chaos they breached the town's defences and stormed the village, spreading terror across its inhabitants. Lian remembers running home, before the threat of men and Grimm alike escalated and being told by his mother to stay with his little sister at all costs. They were to go into the basement and wait until their mother would pick them up. She never returned.

Hours later after the commotion died down, the basement door was opened, but instead of their mother, a huntress stood in the entrance. Fortunately, shortly after the Grimm attack a distress signal was sent to all huntsmen in the area and to the Kingdom of Mistral. Unfortunately though, the help came too late and most of the village was wiped out. The huntress pitied the two children she found in the destroyed village. As a result shedecided to take them with her to Vale and adopt them into her family. After all no Faunus except those two survived the disaster. At first it took Lian some time to get used to this new environment, coping with his grieve over losing his new parents and getting to know his "new" family. But he grew really close to them and even began calling his adoptive parents "Pa" and "Ma". Especially with his adoptive mother he formed a strong bond, even going so far as wishing to follow the same career path as her, ultimately enrolling in a primary combat school.
