Eko is a shapeshifting Gemstone from the Thailand group. He is best friends with Bunyuen and is often the voice of reason to her impulsive acting. His preferred form is a grey tabby cat but with practice and effort he can take on the form of other small animals too. Another known one is a sable.
At some point not long after their encounter with Marcellos group, Bunyuen dies. Eko takes it extremely hard. In their community, using ones powers to slow ageing was frowned upon and discouraged but reincarnation was wholeheartedly believed in. Eko realised if he waited long enough, it was possible that Bun would reincarnate and they would be reunited. So he turned into a cat and froze his ageing, staying like that in hopes of one day finding her again.
He leaves the Thai group when he does this, knowing they would disapprove of his plan and spends some time exploring Europe and getting into trouble. At one point he becomes an ally of Asbestos and an enemy to the Edel group. At another point he disappears to England to hide out with an ageing Gemstone called Ibrahim from the Turkish group who has no idea what he really is. He's a free agent, playing all sides, waiting for the return of his best friend.
