About

Joaquín, my big homie.. I designed him along with Paloma. Ironically, they were not originally intended to even be together but stand alone characters within their own rights. But as I would doodle them both in my sketchbook, I was just like “Fuck it!” and boom, I paired them together. Honestly, I created him because I wanted to create regional Mexican characters & I wanted to create a vaquero or ranchero character. I have been listening to my parent’s music a lot (such as Banda and Norteños) and he just came out! I don’t have the original sketch anymore sadly, but just like any other character he continued to evolve into what he is today. Thank you for showing my characters love, it means so much to me!!

Story

Childhood & Upbringing

Joaquín was born in his family’s rancho (ranch) on the 21st of May. He was born into a family of 7; his parents, paternal grandparents, younger brother & older sister. He would grow up around his family only since he lived in a very rural rancho in the North of Mexico. His rancho (that he eventually inherits) is a 1hr 30min drive away from the closest city. He was raised with a traditional, catholic family. A lifestyle that would eventually influence him in his later life. As he got older, he began to be trained in farm-labor by his paternal grandfather & father such as herding & caring for cattle, cleaning stalls, harvesting & planting crops & vegetables.. It was pretty rough at first, but there was no other lifestyle to choose with his life’s circumstances. His father also taught him the most basic math & spanish literacy, his education level would be the equivalent of maybe an American 3rd or 4th grade level. In his later teen years he would mature & learn emotional discipline so his father could teach him basic equestrianism. A sport that Joaquín would grow to love. He was also taught to handle and use firearms such as ARs, pistols and guns to guard & protect the rancho. In his early adulthood, he would teach himself to drive since the men of the house agreed that having a truck to carry more loads & go across the rancho faster would be very efficient for them. Having access to a truck, Joaquín would begin to use it to travel to the nearest city and would eventually find a side-hustle being a black & goldsmith to gain some extra income. His day-to-day life at that point would be a consistent routine of labor in the ranch and every other day driving down to the nearest city to go work as a black & goldsmith. He would spend any free-time he had working out or horse-back riding on long trails around the desert landscapes that surrounded their rancho. The only time the routine would change was obviously during festive seasons, such as christmas seasons, fiestas del rancho (festive season of the ranch) and during family reunions. He overall enjoyed his upbringing since he felt his father & grandfather instilled great discipline & habits into him. In his later adult years, he would be sent by his father to attend a business meeting with a very distant relative in a ranch in the very south of Mexico. Joaquín would instantly take the trip since he wanted to travel anyways. This trip would change his life forever since without even trying, he would meet his future wife Paloma along the way on his business trip.

Present day

Joaquín would meet Paloma on his business trip by pure chance. If you ask him, he thinks that God sent her right to him. He would pursue and date Paloma for his entire business trip. He got to know her and her entire immediate family in that week and then he asked her to marry him once his week-stay ended. They married civilly right before he left and then married officially (through the church) 3 months later and brought her over to his rancho to live with him as his wife. He still continues his two jobs, tending to the labors of the ranch and going every other day to the city to work as a black/goldsmith. He lives his life currently providing everything for Paloma, this is a lifestyle that gives him a lot of joy and purpose. He enjoys giving her all he can, just as he knows she does the same for him. He always looks forward to coming back from work in the ranch or the blacksmith shop to see Paloma. To see the food she prepares for him, the clothes she washes for him and the home she cleans for him. Joaquín also loves to take Paloma out to the city for church, walks or shopping as well as taking her to Jaripeos or Charreadas and going to Bailes to take themselves both out of the routine once in a while. He looks forward to the future, especially since he and Paloma both want children. They canonically end up with 15!!
