⇀ Overview

Aegis reaches a height of idiocy that only truly, dreadfully intelligent people can ever hope to aspire to.

They're that kind of scholar - you know, the type who charges recklessly into intellectual pursuits just because they think they're interesting and then forgets to eat for two days straight because look, just one more page, alright? Fascinated by everything, Aegis is a fountain of endless curiousity - or, at least, they were, until their interest in progress and discovery lead them to commit a terrible sin. Now, knowing that it was their own passion that caused them to lose everything they cared about, Two-bit tempers own desires in a desperate attempt to never again fall. This is... only partially successful, as it's clear that they're still just as much of a nerd as they were before the Incident, but they really do try.

How could they not? Aegis had always wanted to be a hero, and despite their dishonor, Two-bit wants the same.

Aegis has always had something of a superhero complex, which is entirely understandable, given that their adoptive mother - Phoenix of the Holy Flame - was so well respected. They could never stand seeing others in trouble, and they're the type to cheerfully and enthusiastically help anyone in need... often ignoring the danger of the situation to do so. Recklessness came easily to Aegis, and it still does to Two-Bit, and it's fair to say they're a bit of an adrenaline junkie. They like climbing buildings, working out, and being physically active, much like an ethusiastic puppy that needs lots of attention from its owner. Aegis never did anything in half-measures, and though Two-bit tries to halve this internal desire, they're...

...Well...

It's difficult, to say the least.

Appearance

⇀ Description

  • Height || 5'9
  • Build || Wiry
  • Eyes || Golden
  • Skin tone || Olive
  • Hair color || Medium brown
  • Hair style || Braided, hangs over one shoulder
  • Demeanor || Friendly
  • Style || Casual, but 'cool'.

Aegis' upturned golden eyes glimmer on their long, olive-toned face, shining with a deeply set intelligence, and their long mouth is expressive, displaying every emotion they feel with readily apparent honesty. This makes their features dynamic and lively, giving them the impression of almost constant motion even when they're sitting still. In a five minute timespan, their mouth can crinkle up with a smile, pull into a grimace, and then immediately twist into palatable awkwardness as they encounter a stray typo. Obviously, it's incredibly difficult for them to keep secrets, as their face gives their emotions away every time.

Their nutty brown hair is pulled into a braid and drapped over their shoulder most of the time, though they have been known - when they dress up - to put it in a more elaborate french braid or bun. This happened more often when they were a child and had the appearence of nobility to maintain. Sometimes, they'll incorperate jeweled or decorated hairbands into their style, or they'll let their hair fall loosely around their shoulders, but most of their time they prefer simple practicality in their routine. On occasion, they'll dress up their appearence a little by using eyeshadow (normally glittery) or by putting on some moderate variety of lip-gloss. Their lashes are already very long and full, meaning they don't often need mascera, and they can't stand the feeling of fountation or concealer on their skin. They will, however, routinely paint their nails, often with warm colors or simple neutral colors.

Being an atheltic person, Aegis is limber and decently muscular, with semi-prominent biceps and visible abdominal muscles. Their body shape is rectangular, with a flat chest and slender hips, and they have nice calves developed from their irrepressable climbing habit. They enjoy clothes that are easy to move in, but still, being a bit of a loser who still stubbornly clings onto their hero complex, they like clothes that convey an impression of coolness. This means, even though it's inconvienient, they'll wear their white cape out and about, especially when they're going to magus functions. They also enjoy fingerless gloves, and whenever they can get away with it, they prefer to operate sans-shoes.

Occasionally will wear crop tops just so you can see their abs.

⇀ Important Notes

  • Aegis is androgynous. Are they dmab with feminine traits? Are they dfab with masculine traits? Who knows! Who cares. Certaintly not them, and they'd prefer you stop asking, thank you.

Miscellaneous

⇀ Symbol

Shooting Star - Aegis is a person who burns brightly, a person who wants to bear all of the hopes, dreams, and wishes of the world... and yet they are fated to fall, to dissipate into the darkness of the night sky. Can that fallen hope ever be found again, ike discovering a long-forgotten meteorite in a grassy field?

⇀ Abilities

Shield C+: Because of their training as an Inquisitor they are very hardy and difficult to kill, though they've been crippled by their change in name. In the Thaumaverse, magic works off of the principle of belief, i.e. the more something is believed to be true, the truer it is. Due to a unique property of their souls, Magi have the ability to change the world using belief, and their very existances are defined by how they're perceived by the people around them. So, when Aegis was called Aegis by their peers -a defender of the innocent, the protector of sacred dreams - they were far, far more powerful than their current status as 'Two-bit'. Still, it's hard to stamp out the Aegis-ness of Aegis, given how naturally protective of a person they are. Deep down, they still view themselves as 'a person who will stalwartly defend justice until the end', so their own residual belief in themselves keeps them from dying to silly things like knife wounds and gun shots.

When they're in the presence of people who believe in them or still think of them as Aegis, their ability to withstand damage goes up accordingly.

Mark of a Scholar B: Having grown up in the magical equivalent of a research institute, Aegis was surrounded by brilliant and inquisitive minds. Though their tasks were more focused around defending the castle than actually participating in it's studies, they were always fascinated with Spaghorde's scholars, and they spent a majority of their free time assisting in experiments and reading books in the castle's expansive library. This has given them a strong academic foundation in magic, exposure to the questioning attitude one needs to make new discoveries, and first-hand experience when it comes to constructing a ritual. Shortly put, Aegis is a nerd who can think up cool shit to do and explain how it all works. This is unusual for Magi, whose education mostly comes in the form of the oral traditions and knowledge of the typically small, insular communities they're trained in. There aren't many who understand magic on a scale as grand as Aegis does... which means they are highly dangerous, as this skill allows them to construct world-altering examples of spellcraft.

This is part of the reason why everyone in Regina refers to them as "Two-bit', as this limits what they can accomplish with their knowledge.

Puns EX: Language defines perception. Perception defines the world. Therefore, to magi, language is a fundamental element of spellcraft, and language-based associations can both suggest, and also form, ways to link concepts. The selection of names in wizard society relies on this: for example, the name Aegis of the Fallen Star embodies the concepts of miracles (through associations with shooting star = wishes) along with defending (Aegis = shield), which produced a magician that had an easier time with 'overcoming impossible odds' and 'withstanding large amounts of physical pain'. Another application of this idea is through... puns. Say you are trying to locate someone's missing cat. It is possible to use the phrase 'the cat is out of the bag' to link the idea of cats and bags. Through the use of a talisman (like the missing creature's collar, fur, toy, etc) it is possible to reverse the phrase, recreate it, and through some Magic Bullshit, instead have the real cat be in the bag instead of whatever was being used to stand in for them.

This may sound ludicrously stupid and, in fact, it is. However, no one can deny that the Grand Order itself - the fundamental laws of the world that defines how things... are -is susceptible to wordplay based meddling with reality. There are some writings that suggest the Grand Order may have some semblence of a consciousness, and it is more likely to let something happen if it thinks it is clever or funny. This mindset is often made fun of by the more intellectual members of magical society... but it still remains a persistent, though improbable, idea.

To sum it up: Aegis can make weird shit happen by cracking really dumb jokes, and given that one of their interests is linguistics, they know a lot of Really Dumb Jokes.
