Summary

Camille Ryland was a young college student who was afraid of the dark. Things followed her in the dark. Chased her. On a Halloween night when she got too drunk at a party she was confronted with the reality of Things that Go Bump. One of the caveats of chasing down the things in the darkness was that everyone who had known her, had loved her, would think that she was dead. Thinking of her mother, who hated her, thinking of the boyfriend who had betrayed her, it was a no-brainer.

Unfortunately Deus Ex was nothing like a bed of roses. Afraid to sleep in the dark she abandoned her basement (dungeon) room to sleep in common areas. Eventually, she made friends with Otto Graves, who took pity on her. He let her use his kitchen, took her on a trip to Disney World, and let her move into his place. There were two beds that eventually got pushed into one...and a third person joined them then. There is a lot to be said about Maebe Grace Bertrand but 'sweet' is not really one of them. She had initially taken Cami to bed as a way to goad Otto but it turned into a love-triangle that crashed and burned rather painfully. Cami loved Otto, loved him like family, like a piece of herself she hadn't known she was missing. Losing him hurt because of how it was done but she could have lived without him in her bed. Maebe? Losing Maebe was a knife to the heart. Cami had loved her, deeply, almost obsessively.

Moving into Gale Gentry's house on loan in the towns she kept to herself. Mimsy saw her more than anyone else but Camille had become little more than a ghost herself. She still took time out to go on the occasional mission hunting down Horsemen, still ran the classes that Taym had designed before taking his own life. She considered following him into oblivion once or twice but who would help the newbies if she was gone? Creation's touch, setting her back to a carefree 14 year old girl, was a blessing.
