The scary not-human deaf man turned out to be a soft and kind person deep down. Ava doesn't regret staying with him, benefitting from his kindness, and repaying him for it.
She does regret not being more firm when he told her that she had to leave, had to go, because he was dangerous, his life was dangerous, and painting a target on her back to hurt him was going to be no good.
She understood it, then. But she didn't know how much she would miss him.
