Tenko is a young lighthouse operator in a dangerous, foggy shipping route. The placement of their lighthouse makes it the only guiding light through a notoriously hidden route for ships. Due to its secrecy, it is very sought after for illegal shipments, pirates, and anyone else hoping to avoid contact with authorities. While Tenko's predecessor warned against the dangers of dealing with these kinds of sailors, once he passed, the lighthouse, ports, and property were left to them. And they, despite the warnings, opened the trading route to the more... unsavory cargo ships wishing to pass through.
After being ripped off, robbed, and threatened by thieves, pirates, and brutes, Tenko began using their ability to cast curses onto those who do them wrong. They became notorious for destroying ships, killing entire crews, and shutting down their lighthouse when disrepsected. They earned a name for themself among those who frequented the shipping route and ports. Now, they live off the generous donations and supplies of ships who pay them tribute while sailing through.
