Tanzanite

 

Personality

Tanzanite is moderately unstable, and will go off on her own for days at a time to meditate. This is a direct outcome from the experiments done to her, and she is self aware. She is never brash, and will think through a situation fully before making a decision. She has lots of internal pain, but she has lived with it for so long she can ignore it. 

Appearance

She has short curly hair that frames her face. Her left eye is red while the other is blue, trying to hide the left one with her hair. She's not that short, and has a medium build. Her outfit consists of....

Abilities

Like all gems, Tanzanite can shape shift, summon a weapon, and retreat back into her gem. Tanzanite's weapon is a large scythe.

History

A Kindergarten experiment, Tanzanite was made deep below a planet reigned by Blue Diamond. When she and the rest of the surrounding gems emerged, a select few were taken back to Homeworld. After a long and torturous heat treatment, her color had changed from red to a deep indigo. Blue Diamond herself had come to see the progression of the experiments. Unfortunately, only Tanzanite was able to survive, and it left a huge psychological scar on the gem. Blue Diamond decided to take Tan into her court. At an unknown point in time, she was given her own Pearl. 

Tanzanite and her Pearl were to accompany a Nephrite team down to earth during the Gem War. While the two were only supposed to stay for a short while and observe, there was a malfunction in the ship's hardware and it came crashing down. Now stranded, Tanzanite and her Pearl begin searching for a way home. 

Some rebel gems cornered the two of them, Pearl telling her Tanzanite to run. Of course, Tanzanite refused. The rebel gems shattered Pearl, and Tanzanite was left alone.

Later that night, she found some other gems cowering from a homeworld gem. Tanzanite ran in front, arms out in a protective stance. 

"Tanzanite? Do you really wish to renounce your diamond? I didn't know you became traitor," the blue gem barked.

"I guess I do," Tanzanite replied tearfully, drawing her weapon. 

"Wait until Blue Diamond hears this! Her gem that she so mercifully took in! After a freak accident no less!"

"Shut up! You know nothing! Nothing!" Tanzanite screamed, swinging her scythe, successfully poofing the blue gem. She slowly turned to the others. "Come with me. Let's survive this together."

Tanzanite forms as a brownish crystal and is trichroic — which means it shows three colors — brown, blue and violet concurrently. Heating — either occurring underground naturally by metamorphic processes, or above ground by man in a furnace removes the brown or burgundy color component to produce a stronger violet-blue color and makes the stone "dichroic" which means it only reflects blue and violet.^[18] Rarely, gem-quality tanzanite will heat to a green primary hue, almost always accompanied by a blue or violet secondary hue. These green tanzanite have some meaningful value in the collector market, but are seldom of interest to commercial buyers.
