Born in a Brothel in a shady part of Port Royal. Mackenzie – who hated her real name, adopted a pirate’s last name later on, was a wild child who learnt to fend for herself very early on. She took to the streets, pickpocketing wherever and whenever she could. Often brawling with other street-rat kids for scraps, and tricking civilians into taking pity on the poor “orphan” child.

She eventually (accidentally) stows away on a cargo ship which gets attacked by pirates. Mackenzie is soon found hiding amongst the livestock and supplies and is taken under the Captain’s wing and raised as his own.

After eventually finding out her name, Captain Morgan “Mackenzie” taught "Evelyn” everything she knows. Including to read and write. Spending most of her life at sea, the crew always treated her with respect and was like a big family to her. By the time she was 17, she had already sailed 10,000 nautical miles and soon got tattoos to celebrate and had the honour of going to Shipwreck Cove many a time. Even meeting an infamous pirate who wouldn’t have been so known back then. She’s also had plenty of experience with pillaging and plundering with her found family. Her father and the crew told many stories which inspired her tattoos in later years.

At 20, her father’s ship was attacked by Redcoats. They overpowered the ship, killed most of the crew, including her father. With his dying breath, Captain Morgan placed his hat on her head and begged her to flee from the ship. She did just that but was soon caught in a rowboat not far from the burning ship. She had a date with the gallows in the morning.

She ended up escaping that fate the same night by tricking a young soldier guarding the inmates, into entering her cell. Mackenzie escapes, commandeers a ship and sails to Tortuga where she sells it off and gets herself a job, working as a barmaid at the local tavern. She works there for about two years before set sailing with all sorts of pirates. Posing as a man most ventures, boarding different ships, collecting what profit she could along the way, often returning back to Tortuga. She’d soon create a name for herself and it’d be known as the notorious “Deadly Red”.
