Basics

Name Cynthia
Called Cynth
Age 19
Gender Female
Species Human
Role Vessel
Alignment Chaotic Neutral
Theme The Ghost

A bit of an oddball, Cynthia has always been interested in the occult. Especially since the world she's living in actually does have things like ghosts and the like, she's always eager to learn more about these sorts of things whenever she can. Her curiosity is at the point where she willingly goes by herself in the middle of the night to places that are reported to be haunted, just because she thinks it could be interesting. In fact, many of her neighbors don't know much about her existence at all because of her "nocturnal" habits. Those that do see her often remark on her likeness to those ghosts she's so fascinated with, wondering if she's even alive at all. Strangely, she doesn't quite seem to mind the comparisons...

About

Growing up, Cynthia largely remained on her own - but this isn’t quite something she minded. Her parents had both died at a relatively young age, leaving her to her own devices. Without anybody else to turn to, Cynthia instead began to raise herself, living a lonely life to herself. After the incident, she had become reclusive and only left the house when she needed to; this had gotten to the point where people began to question whether there was even anybody living there at all. She sometimes heard the comments; and though they always stuck with her, she never took them too seriously. Why should that sort of thing bother her when she had other things to worry about? More specifically, she had become all too interested in ghosts after the death of her parents. At first, it had been out of an attempt to talk to her parents one last time. But as time marched on, and she learned that these attempts were futile, she realized that even in spite of that, she had been enjoying her research all the same. The thought of ghosts and other dangerous creatures that could kill her if they so desired? Well, she would be lying if she said the thought hadn’t interested her. She slowly became more active, leaving her home at night on her own to try and find something of value, though it wasn’t until she heard rumors of a cursed hotel that she finally found what she was looking for. Cynthia was aware that investigating this, should it be true, could come at the cost of her own life; however, she didn’t quite seem to mind this possibility at all.

The Hotel

“Oh, that hotel..? If you check in, rumor has it that you’ll never leave. You’ll be stuck there forever!” Cynthia had overheard multiple people talking about the rumors of that hotel; of course, investigations had been carried out, and nothing ever came of them… but she didn’t care. She knew that there had to be some sort of truth to the rumor, and decided it would be worth checking out. The thought of potentially disappearing didn’t bother her at all, of course; by this point, it was rare that anything ever actually seemed to affect her too badly. When she reached the hotel, she was greeted by a “human” named Acheron - who actually turned out to be a demon in disguise. He had asked for Cynthia’s name to check into the hotel, something innocent that had actually been a way to try and get her to sign off her soul, in the form of a contract. Signing the contract would have ensured that she could never leave, after all. However, Cynthia managed to avoid actually getting stuck by writing a fake name; though she didn’t have any proof that there was anything shady going on at this point, she was paranoid enough to know that she could never be too careful. Though she didn’t mind dying, the thought of tripping up to the point where she couldn’t learn anything did bother her. Nevertheless, upon gaining access to the hotel, she began to explore to the best of her ability - and found out more than she had ever hoped she would. The hotel was actually a set-up by two demons - Acheron and his sister, Achlys - as a way to collect souls for them to eat. Cynthia, instead of getting out at the realization of danger, immediately wanted to know more - and went deeper and deeper into the hotel as a result.

Meeting Glyph

Though it had taken a while for Cynthia to find much else of note, she eventually did come across two potential allies. One came in the form of a human girl named Noelani, who had ended up trapped in the hotel. The other was a much more sinister acquaintance, however; upon exploring, Cynthia and Noelani had come across a demon sealed within a pot. Upon unsealing the cat-like demon, who claimed that his name was Glyph, Cynthia insisted that the demon tagged along with them. Glyph, eager to escape and return to his true form, very quickly agreed - though it was clear that he had ulterior motives. Unbeknownst to Cynthia, she was unfortunately the ideal Vessel for Glyph to possess - which he immediately began to take advantage of once he found out. Because Glyph had been stuck in the body of a cat, he was severely limited in what he could do, but Cynthia provided an alternative to this dilemma. As such, Glyph began taking over Cynthia’s body whenever he got the chance so he could do as he pleased and enact his revenge on the demons running the hotel without restraint. That being said, he can’t actually hold the possession for very long, and Cynthia herself actually has no idea that this is happening at all, as she goes into a state of unconsciousness whenever it happens. Though Noelani’s a bit more aware of everything and warns her to be careful around Glyph, she doesn’t mind the cat’s presence at all, and continues to drag him along with them, despite his complaints that they should leave. Cynthia ignores his pleas, and he's forced to stick by them if he wants to keep his vessel.

Relationships

Noelani [ Girlfriend ]

A human that Cynthia had met in the hotel, Noelani is much more careful than she is - as well as much more afraid of the horrors found within. Though the pair started out as unlikely allies, the two eventually did start to care about each other. In fact, Noelani was one of the first people in ages to make Cynthia have some sort of interest in the living rather than the occult, which is really saying a lot for her. That being said, it’s clear that there’s still one big disagreement between the two; though Noelani desperately wants to just escape, Cynthia wants to stay as long as she can to explore to the best of her ability, and it takes a long time before Cynthia actually listens to her concerns.

Glyph [ Ally? ]

A demon, trapped in the form of a cat that Cynthia accidentally unsealed while exploring the hotel. Glyph sees the girl as nothing but a tool. As an ideal vessel for the demon, Glyph often possesses and takes control over her; in fact, it’s only because of this use to him that he willingly sticks by her side despite the fact that he only wants to escape and regain his true form, while she wishes to stick around. It’s a bit hard to tell due to his personality, but he does eventually become attached, and starts to save her from danger a bit more often - not only because he wishes to use her as a vessel, but now partially because he cares. That being said, however, he’ll never actually admit to this fact.

Acheron [ Enemy? ]

The demon that runs the hotel, Cynthia was suspicious of him from the beginning, realizing that it likely wasn’t physically possible for a human to be running all of the things that Acheron seemed to be. As it turns out, she was right; had she not lied during the check-in process, Acheron would have gained access to her soul, trapping her there in the hotel. Though Cynthia finds him interesting, Acheron is incredibly wary of her. Though he’s perfectly aware that she’s human, he’s unsure why she would willingly visit the hotel considering she knew the rumors. As such, he always remains on guard around her, afraid that she has tricks up her sleeves that will in some way ruin his efforts to gain more souls to eat.
