Ayulsa is a raging dumbass lesbian of a black mage, who left her tribe after the Nuhn bluntly told her that she was not a potential candidate for his title on account of being a woman and went to start... well, functionally a lesbian catgirl commune. She has had little success in this endeavor, mostly because she comes on strong as a hurricane and scares off most of the women she's into.
Despite her weaknesses in social matters, in the scholarly arena she's terrifyingly intelligent and she has managed to charm the pants off more than one mage purely through her thaumaturgic prowess. (Yes, she and Sadu are fucking.) She's highly competitive and considers basically anyone who might be able to best her a potential rival. She doesn't mean anything malicious by it (and, in fact, is often very willing to help her rivals in turn), but it is, again, an extremely intense thing for most people to suddenly face down.
To strangers she is purely cheerful and pleasant, if overly intense about it, but for those she's closest with, playful insults and bickering are common additions (she actively avoids insults about things her friends are sensitive about and is generally decent at telling when they need her to drop the playfighting, but it's still very much A Thing for her), especially if she has to get them out of a problem they caused themselves. She generally hides her negative emotions when she can, since she hates feeling them and would rather they just stop.
She was confident and cocky throughout much of ARR, but the assassination of the Sultana severely shook her and left her much more uncertain, especially in a totally new environment. She is a staunch ally of Ysayle's campaign to legalize dragonfucking after meeting Vidofnir (who very gently rejected her advances, much to Ayu's dismay).
Ayulsa's birth name is Z'ayulsa ("zoh-AH-yule-sa") Arhou. Her father, Arhou Nuhn of the Z tribe, still gets along with her and communicates with her regularly, but he is regularly exasperated by rumors of what she's gotten up to in her time away from the family.
Ayu is an unusually tall miqo'te, at 5'5", and is spectacularly ripped underneath her wizard robes. Part of this is her genuinely working out, but she's also incapable of staying still; even while standing she sways and swings her arms, and given how heavy her pack usually is that means her stimming just makes her even stronger.
