Gaynor (Evocation)

Despite growing up in a highly restrictive and religious home, Abel never spoke poorly of his childhood. As the second-born son, he wasn't expected to fill the role of perfect heir, so he was mostly left to explore the world around him however he wanted. And even though he was raised very differently from his older brother, the two shared a very close bond. Abel wasn't taught magic the way his brother was, but he'd always sit by his side during study sessions and try to take his own notes. Even if they were mainly illegible scribbles.

This peaceful, free lifestyle was taken from Gaynor at age 11 when the house's heir abruptly died after running away. Suddenly he was the eldest son and was swamped with burdens he was never conditioned to hold. It felt as if everyone around him grieved much faster than he did. He was never given time to process his loss. As a permanent reminder that he was no longer his own person, Abel's name was taken from him and replaced with his brother's. From this day on, he was Gaynor Hawthorne: eldest son and new heir to the house.

Gaynor went on to do what he could to please his parents. Though he isn't necessarily bad at using magic he's never good enough to fit the ridiculous standards set by his family and himself. As a result of his brittle confidence, Gaynor has become very competitive and aggressive, especially when he loses. Despite trying to be the obedient son the Hawthornes always wanted, Gaynor couldn't bring himself to forget about his brother. One day, when he refused to be silenced anymore, his father finally had enough and cursed Gaynor to smile until the day their new god would arrive.

After the recent passing of their parents, the Hawthorne siblings immediately begin disobeying by looking for their lost brother. While Beatrice and Cedric have very few memories of him, Gaynor is insistent that he is somewhere out there, alive and hopefully well. Through coincidence, one of Beatrice's friends across the Atlantic Ocean happens to know a man who fits the description perfectly down to the accent. Though there are no pictures available of this individual, Gaynor promptly packs his bags and leaves for Lindow, Canada.

• His handwriting is awfully scribbly and illegible most of the time
• Forgets to carry lighters for his cigarettes. Always. He relies on magic to light them.
• The bandages are for hiding his curse mark from everyone who isn't family or a close friend.
• Sleeps with his eyes open like a FREAK
• His dog is named Arthur. This wasn't on purpose it's just old lore from 2018 I forgot about until now
• The nickname Dodo comes from him being the only sibling left without wings in their original lore ): flightless bird
• Gaynor refuses to call Artur by his name.
