Pecculia

As a grass type, Pecculia can change the petals on her mantis claws to form more plant-based fibers along the edges - allowing her to create unique brushes for her artwork. She prefers oil-based paints in her work, though that's mainly because she likes to absorb watercolor paints as a means of maintaining her petals instead of their intended use.

Her call to adventure is simple: she wants to encapsulate the beauty of nature by painting environments all around the world so that others may appreciate it as well. If she has to protect the world she idolizes so much, she will do everything to preserve its splendor.

Lurantis are often seen as pinnacles of poise, regalness and that require tender and meticulous care to maintain their beauty. Pecculia, however, is a happy-go-lucky ball of bouncy optimism; she loves throwing ideas on the canvas and going absolutely wild in her passion of art, but she does retain some level of discipline in her habits and in following village traditions. One moment, she'll be dancing from side to side with her eyes closed as she's daydreaming, and in the next, she'll be as still as the trees, poised and ready to strike with fierceness should her concentration be interrupted.

Nonetheless, despite her absolute passion for art, she faces a particular dilemma: she's not very good at it, and struggles to improve. She tries to balance it with other crafts like sewing or origami, but she's not too good at those either. She wants to do everything in that sphere but doesn't seem to get very far - often going from one to the another just because she loses interest in the moment but still has a fervent drive for them with artwork being her most intense passion.

That's not to say she is lacking in skill; in fact, she's practically a genius when it comes to cooking! She just doesn't have any interest in it at all. She prefers just to photosynthesize, and just has berries or raw meat if she does eat - she doesn't see much appeal in cooking despite having an incredible talent in it - excellent taste, but awful presentation.

Much of her struggle is coming to terms with what she is good at versus what she really wants to do - understanding that pursuing one may lead to fulfillment yet carries immense risk, and the other will lead to stability at the cost of feeling drained from her village's overbearing traditions. It's not that she doesn't respect them - she in fact has a lot of pride in them - but she also likes to loosen up from time to time, too.

Astrea: "She's so pretty! She came to the village one day when I was younger and she's settled in nicely - she's got some of the traditions down better than I do! She acts all prim and proper but once you get to stop looking at books all day she's actually a really sweet lady! Oh, and don't get her started about outer space; she'll talk for hours...!"
