Brianne (nicknamed Brownie) is Cylan's older littermate. Brianne is a pretty down to business, stubborn person. After the pre mature death of their mother Brianne took it upon herself to take care of their ailing father, and considers herself the head of the household. Cylan and Brianne had a reasonably good relationship as children, but their relationship has been a little strained since Cylan moved out, and even MORE strained when their mother died while he was away.

When their mom died iirc Cylan was at college? Or something like that? He was living away from home. Brownie was a little upset at the time that he was away, both because she preferred having him around and mostly because of their mom's quickly declining health.
Brownie was critical before but after their mom's death she lost the self awareness that held her back from being unintentionally and intentionally nasty, especially and mostly to Cylan.
She was upset that Cylan hadn't been home for their mother's death. She was upset because when she made the phone call to tell Cylan about her death he didn't pick up because his phone was on silence and he was doing band practice or something. And then he didn't read the message or call back for a few days (because he was dreading whatever it ended up being about, even though he didn't know what yet)
And then last of all one of the last things their mom told Brownie and her dad before she passed was that she wanted them (including Cylan) to take care of each other and stick together. Also probably expressed sadness that Cylan wasn't also there so she could say goodbye to him too. Those three things contributed strongly to her inclination to Not Let Him Forget This. And inadvertently use him as a punching bag/guilt him into a lot of things. She turned a lot of her grief into anger as a way to cope
