Bug

There was another cold war and everyone was afraid that nukes would be dropped at any moment so scientists decided to focus on creating humans that are immune, or more immune, to radiation so we could live in a world that was irradiated. They chose to focus on cockroaches because of the idea that they could survive through an explosion and learn of a gene that makes all bugs tougher against radiation. They begin creating lab babies with this gene and Bug was the first to fully turn out so they ran many violent and cruel tests on him.

The others also went through testing, and the earliest ones had it the worst but after Bug they felt less reason to do every test and they started treating them more like normal children.

They have a chip like they put in dogs or cats that allow them to be tracked and are each numbered based on their kindergarten (A-Z) and when they joined the kindergarten.

The scientists brought on an ethics scientist so they don't entirely screw up the children and that scientist takes care of the kids. This scientists name is Mrs. Hanover but the kids call her Momma because she essentially acts like a mother to them.
