Strix

An owl with the ears and wings of a bat, and the tail of a cat.

-A former witch's pet. Though he gets offended at being called a pet and prefers "assistant" or "companion".

-Jack's best (and only) friend. Strix looks out for him to make sure he doesn't accidentally (or intentionally) cause a disaster.

-He sees the potential in Jack's magic abilities and wants to help him hone his skills and work together to become even more powerful.

-He can't talk, but he can understand others just fine and respond using body language and vocalisations. Jack is the only one who can understand what he's saying most of the time.

-It gets on his nerves when nobody listens to or acknowledges him. He doesn't like being misunderstood.

-He enjoys learning and practising magic. He's very intelligent and can read and write.

-He's the only known member of his species, some kind of mysterious hybrid creature.

-He's more level headed and cautious than Jack.
