Cato is a vampire originally from the Renaissance era, though currently serves as a pilot for the British military during WWII. At the moment he is one of the eldest of a small coven of vampires that have banded together, all whose lives have been affected by the war in some way. Occasionally he helps out the oldest of the six vampires in their group, a nurse named Penelope. Cato provides aid to the fledglings that Penny often teaches, helping to explain the different ways of conquering the initial lust for blood that arises. Though despite this, fledglings still often make Cato queasy, considering his own Turning was a gruesome scene that he still hasn't quite gotten himself over.
With being around for such a long time, it's certainly taken its toll on Cato. Grumpy and opinionated, Cato is an introverted man who'd prefer to thrive in his own thoughts or be left to do his job alone instead of converse with others. Occasionally, when he does strike up a hearty conversation, it is often about the various historical figures he has met in the past. Unfortunately, none of the other vampires can really tell if he's messing with them or if he's serious.
Despite a few of the negative aspects that have arisen from Cato's long walk upon the earth, some good features have developed from it. Witnessing repeated hardships and multiple wars, he's become a strong and resilient man who'd rather fight for his home country than stand on the sidelines, much like he would've done as a mortal. With a life currently centuries long, a sense of wisdom has been unearthed from it. Many of the younger vampires, particularly fledglings, tend to listen to the advice Cato has to say. Whether this is simply because they respect him, or because they'd rather not face the sour attitude Cato throws around occasionally (or perhaps both), they'll never know.
