Elena Castaño-Fletcher

An icon, best girl. 

The mother of the Fletcher siblings, and a central figure in many lives. After immigrating to Florida, USA from South America, her parents welcomed the birth of Cassandra, Elena's older sister, before moving onto New York City, where they welcomed Elena herself into the world during the sunrise on a beautiful spring day. However, shortly after the birth of Elena, they soon seperated amicably, with Elena's mum feeling motherhood was not the right path for her. Elena and her sister as a result were raised predominantly by their dad, Alejandro, who took up teaching music at their local elementary schools. Despite growing up in a single parent household, her childhood was far from lonely as she also found a mother figure and additional father figure in her dad's friends Jocelyn (Vasilisa) and Aaron (Idris) Harrison. Her childhood as a result was a relatively happy one thanks to her parental figures and extended family. 

While growing up, Elena was a sweet and clever girl who enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, and taking part in all the different activities and hobbies she loved,something her dad strongly encouraged. Alejandro only wanted his daughters to have fun and to be themselves, and as such, Elena was never discouraged in her passions, even if they changed as they usually do for any child; from learning how to sing and play various instruments from her dad, pursuing her academic interests and studying hard, to maintaining her interest in her culture and heritage as a first generation immigrant with a dad from Colombia. Despite now living in the US, and in a very diverse city such as New York, Elena kept a close connection with her cultures (yes both sides, as her dad would teach her about her Mexican side as well), grew up in a bilingual household, which resulted in Elena being able to switch seamlessly from Spanish to English when needed, and also being able to keep up with her relatives whenever they'd speak, particularly for the times Alejandro and his daughters would travel back to their home country to see the family. As she grew and navigated through her formative years, her sweet demeanour never changed, with Elena naturally connecting with those she encountered and making some great long-life friends along the way. At a young age, she met and became fast friends with the shy but just as sweet Felicity-Anne, the two becoming best friends even. Due to her relationship with the Harrisons, Elena additionally grew up with their three children (Lucas, Bel and the 'other' Felicity) as her own sibling figures and close friends as well.

It wasn't until her late teens when she met her future husband Remi, with the two falling for one another fairly quickly, leading to a (TOP TIER) relationship that evolved into marriage without fault. Nothing could explain how Elena fell so hard for the hunky blonde, although his genuine, caring and selfless personality, as well as undeniable charm may have hgad something to do with it, with their similar yet still different personalities meshing perfectly together as their relationship bloomed after that first day they met. Things just flowed seamlessly for them, their bond only growing stronger as time went on, and soon enough Elena gave birth to their eldest son, Kellon. Following this, Elena would also become mother to her and Remi's middle child, Marigold and youngest; Skyler. All three kids blessed to the couple grew their family in size and volume, but Elena wouldn't trade it for anything (no matter how much they get on her nerves/j). 

Elena is very invested in her kids, and although they're all different, fairly sarcastic and proud in their own ways (Kell less than his siblings) she wants them to still be kind people, and to hold their culture and family strong; particularly their parents and each other as siblings who've been close since they were born. For her, she always reminds them that though others will arrive in their life, for these kids especially their siblings and close ones are the ones who at the end of the day will be there for each other no matter what and who really know one another. RELATIONSHIPS:

❥ Remi Fletcher ❥

 Remi is Elena's boyfriend later turned husband. The two share an unbreakable bond, and are there for each other no matter what. Despite being polar opposites in personalities, they work perfectly together and compliment one another seamlessly. Remi means the absolute world to her, and Elena is always prepared to be in his corner and be there for him when he needs support or a hug. Their love transcends all barriers, with Remi in turn being a safe space Elena can always rely on when she is too tired or drained to reach out to others. They're both adventurous yet soft, enjoying domestic past times such as movie nights, picnics and gardening. With them being as close as they are, Elena completely has Remi wrapped around her finger, with him being totally weak for her. This doesn't stop him from playfully teasing her though, and he is the only person who can do so without her retaliating in some way. The same can be said for Elena regarding Remi, with her willing to do anything for him, but also her being very much wrapped around his own finger and unable to not listen to him. They're couples goals honestly and I want what they have like goddamn.

Kellon Fletcher

 Kellon is Elena's eldest son, and the goofy, soft child of the family who she loves dearly. When he was younger, Kellon was fairly passive and soft in comparison to how he is as a teenager and also compared to the rest of the family. Despite this, Elena was there for him whenever he needed his mother and supported him strongly as he found his confidence and passions. His growth makes her very proud and she fondly teases him, but at the end of the day is always cheering him on loudly. The two have a lot of fun banter between them and are guaranteed to pull laughs from one another, especially with Kellon being the most playful and jokey of her kids.

Marigold Fletcher

The Princess of the family and Elena's Princess especially, Marigold is Elena's beloved daughter. Elena and her daughter are extremely similar, sharing an independent and intelligent nature that makes them both charming and attractive to those around them. Elena loves Marigold immensely and trusts her a lot as the most mature of her three children, and is always ready to listen to her woes. Being the only two girls in the household and similar in personality, they're extremely close, and Elena is guilty of taking her daughter on girls trips out when the boys aren't looking. Marigold will forever be her baby girl even as she grows and becomes someone Elena will never stop being proud of.

Skyler Fletcher

 The youngest of the family and her children, Skyler is Elena's baby, her mini-me, and who some jokingly call her 'favourite'. Don't worry, there is no favoritism in this family; Skyler is simply the family baby, and thus doted on heavily by all, but especially by Elena. Skyler was the most accidental/surprising of the kids to happen, but was doted on heavily by both Elena and Remi after his birth. The two are incredibly alike, enough that others view them almost as twins and Skyler as his mother's mini-me. From their looks to interests, mannerisms and personality all being very close, it's no wonder Elena is extremely loving to her son. The love she has for Skyler is unmistakable, and she long vowed to always be there for him; guiding him along his way and being open for him to talk to when he needs his mother. She is incredibly supportive of his endeavours and is always his loudest supporter.

Felicity-Anne Blanche-Harrison

Felicity-Anne, or Leci, is Elena's best friend. The two have known one another for years, and although having different demeanours and personalities, the two are extremely close. Elena and Leci have a sweet relationship, and enjoy confiding in one another about things they don't want to share with others. When it comes to their respective crushes/lovers, these two always rush to keep one another up-to-date. Elena loves her bestie and would do anything for her

Mei-Rin Long-Ivanov

Another one of Elena's close friends, the two can be found often gossiping and causing semi-chaos especially when they are older and mothers. Sharing some similar traits, the two get along fairly well despite Mei's more anti attitude at times. Their sons are best friends, and later husbands making the long-time friends co-mothers in law. The family get-togethers are the perfect excuse for them to catch up often.

Beethoven Lang

Elena's cousin who she loves but also, who she loves to tease. The two get along well, with Beethoven often being the subject of her playful and loving teasing as a child. Beethoven received his nickname 'Beats' from Elena the first time they met as kids, due to her being unable to properly pronounce his name at the time

Rythmina Lang

Elena's niece through Beats, the two have a close aunt/niece relationship and as Mina was growing up spent a lot of time together. Elena can easily be blamed for some of Mina's antics she develops as she gets older, being a very encouraging and fun-loving auntie who is always out having fun with her niece. Elena loves her other little mini-me and is always there to bring a smile to her face

TRIVIA:

- Her favourite music genres are RnB, soul and pop

- All three of her kids are two years apart in age. After Goldie she had her tubes tied bc that was enough kids for her. Somehow Skyler happened though, but she accepted him as a pleasant surprise/miracle baby

- Her Dad is Afro-Colombian, her mom was Afro-Mexican

- Following her marriage to Remi, they settle in Canada to raise their kids though trips to the US are common

- Favorite foods are empanadas, patacón con todo and cheesecake

- Is fluent in English and Spanish. Proficient in French but still struggles with it

- Elena's roots lie in Cartagena (Colombia) and Veracruz (Mexico), both are areas with high numbers of Black Latinos

- She speaks Spanish with a Colombian Costeño (Caribbean/Coastal) accent, this is due to her hometown being on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, and also due to her dad raising her (him being from Colombia). She is also from a heavily Caribbean-influenced town in Mexico

- Isn't very athletic, if she was getting chased she's just gonna give up 💀

- Elena is a forensic scientist

- Her job gets heavy at times bc of the content she deals with esp if children are involved. If that happens she immediately goes home and hugs her kids tight

- She is connected to the Ivanov family due to Skyler marrying Angelo. This makes her Liliana and Miguel Ivanov's other grandmother alongside Mei-Rin

- She enjoys helping her husband garden although she isn't as good as it as he is

- She plays guitar and piano

- She is the matriarch of the Fletchers and even after she passes is a very significant figure for many of her descendants

- She has a strong sweet tooth, enough that her Dr husband has to be strict with how much sugary foods they have in the house
