Profile

Dragons are some of the first sentient creatures to have existed on Kendesai. With bones comparable to different forms of stone, unique physiologies that grant them breath-based weaponry alongside their natural defenses, and a lifespan that can last theoretically forever, they are generally a hardy, powerful lot. They exist in six tribes who each hold a role on a grander scale, each aligned with a respective Divine Fragment.

Quaketails are the dragons of Gaianyx, the Stoneshaper, and live primarily in a town hidden within the woods around Olai. Known primarily for their ability to traverse steep mountainsides and glide from tree to tree, they have hooves that assist in balance, claws sharp as diamond for digging into terrain, and thick, muscular tails that grant them their namesake ability. As a defensive mechanism, they are able to exhale a noxious gas that isn't fatal on its own, but is also known to be highly flammable. Their role tends to fall into the scope of a creator of wares, leaving nothing of their hunts to waste as they form jewelry and tool alike with stone, wood and bone. They are led by Tectoneta.

Slipscales are the dragons of Aquatisk, the Tidecaller, and live beneath a deep lake named for their god. With their ability to spit a fluid that resembles hagfish slime when in contact with water, but becomes acidic when exposed to full air, combined with their strong arms and swift tail allowing them to swim at high speeds and move in water as if it were air, they are very ferocious when threatened. However, they are not warriors by trade, instead primarily concerned with philosophy and science, and can memorize information with startling clarity. This is because, while they are very dangerous in water, they do not have many movement options on land, and thus pick and choose their battles very carefully. They are led by Wavalis.

Embermaws are the dragons of Magmox, the Flamesmith, and live in the desert under the cover of a sandstorm. With a hefty arsenal of exceptionally long claws, high temperature fire breath, scales that allow them to wade in lava for short periods of time, a prehensile tail and a powerful set of arm muscles, they are the archetypical warriors and peacekeepers, interfering with any battles they get wind of to enforce a peaceful resolution. They also patrol the desert to keep trade routes to Luxus and Oberom clear of interference from the Sharkazan, and are often on near-hostile terms at all times due to the frequent raids Sharkazan make to steal the skulls of dragons. They are led by Inferna.

Stormlungs are the dragons of Aeroceph, the Windsinger, and live in the mountains close by Sturmgard. Their niche is that of a watcher and messenger, soaring through the skies on the largest wings of the dragon casts to keep watch for any particularly dangerous events. With their powerful lungs, they let out a mighty, deafening roar to alert those in the area. If the danger is an assailant, they will descend upon them and attempt to constrict them with their muscular, snake-like body and either end the battle there or keep the foe busy until backup arrives, something that seldom takes long since Stormlungs patrol in groups. Outside of battle, they are very spiritual in nature and typically remain in meditation. They are led by Buranori.

Shadowhearts of the dragons of Kitumbron, the Voidwalker, and live within a dimensional rift just beyond Kendesai's orbit. They are seen rarest of all the dragons, as their role lies in their ability to help shape the realm of dreams, where they take on many guises to fend off demons that strike within the nightmares of other living creatures. Those who do manage to catch a glimpse of them often do so in a half-asleep state, and see them as shadowy people at the foots or sides of their beds. The only Shadowheart dragon that people have seen with any certainty is their leader, Sharr. After someone dies, they are guided by masked spirits to a given crossroads to await Sharr's arrival each night. Upon Sharr's arrival, they will have their life presented to Sharr through their particular connection to the powers of life and death, and be sent to either Paradise to rest until their next incarnation, or the depths of Solkeras to atone before they are allowed rest.

Prismafangs are the dragons of Luxus, the Lightkeeper, and live within Kendesai's sun. Acting as divine jailers, Prismafang warriors watch over souls sentenced to their realm, both to ensure they serve their sentence, and to protect them from enterprising demons sensing their volatile emotional states. Having a more primordial essence to their creation than most, they resemble something more akin to a chimera, with sharp, sloth-like front claws, bird-like rear legs, a tail resembling a scorpion, the face of a sauropod, and a large, singular eye. They possess the most devastating of all breath weapons; a solid pillar of light that can melt most metals in seconds through continued exposure, but drains their own physical energy fast enough to require a very filling meal after using it. They are led by Solkeras, for whom their realm is named after, and the first dragon ever created.

Within the six tribes, there are also two major dragon types:

Primarchs are dragons as we would know them; magical, strong and the apex hunter of their given ecosystem. Primarchs are a lineage that lead the dragon tribes and are at times synonymous with angels, as they are known to enforce the will of the gods. On top of their larger draconic form, they are typically able to take on a smaller, humanoid appearance for interacting with others. They are rarely seen in their true forms, as they typically only take them in private, in battle, or in exceptionally formal situations.

Drakin resemble a cross between a dragon and a Kendan; Smaller creatures who possess the same limbless, psychokinetic physiology while possessing the natural weaponry and proportionate strength of a Primarch. They are the most commonly-seen dragon, though even still they tend to keep to themselves with few exceptions, mostly acting as emissaries and trade facilitators. They cannot shapeshift, but their smaller size allows them to do more delicate tasks.
