Lapis was once a terraformer who worked for Vivid Blue Diamond. She was terraforming a planet when she was attacked by an alien parasite. The parasite made her violent and cannibalistic. She attacked other gems and was detained by Vivid's soldiers.
Like Rosaline Pearl, the parasite was removed and neutralized from her gem. However, the need for protein to stay alive and unpredictable tendencies didn't go away and she was placed on the Misfit Ship.
She is best friend's with Rosaline and the two cause a lot of trouble together. She doesn't remember her life before the attack and therefore is happy where she is.
