Melus

Melus was once a mortal man, a doctor during a very dark time in history that lost his life trying to help the sick-- eventually succumbing to the very sickness he was trying to treat in his patients. At death, however, he argued with the being trying to let his soul move on to his eternal resting place. Melus wasn't done yet, he wanted more time, to help more people. He didn't argue that it wasn't his time, he simply said he hadn't been given enough time to help people, that there was more that he could do even if he couldn't have his life back. He was permitted, instead, to take the place of the being trying to ferry him to the afterlife. Now Melus spends his days helping others cope with their own deaths and convincing them to cross over. He's gentle, though firm, with most and has a lot of compassion still after centuries of helping spirits move on.
