Profile

When Ruena hatched, it was immediately apparent that something was off. Her crest was uncomfortably dim and sluggish, especially compared to the lively flurries of other browlets her age. As she grew she was inactive and often spent time huddled up in a cubbyhole, away from other children, napping the days away. Her fatigue was uncommon and worrying, so her hatchery's caretakers called in an expert to look at her. That expert determined that Ruena suffered from magical fatigue--magic just didn't want to stay in her body, and when it left it took all of her energy with it. The doctor recommended that Ruena be moved somewhere highly magical, and that the ambient magic in such a place would help keep her energized.

So it was that young Ruena was relocated to the Monastery of the Open Water, an island floating in the middle of a ley line in the Celestial Seas. The monks there were kind, and had taken in many young children with similar health issues for centuries. Though not explicitly religious, the sect was, and continues to be, deeply spiritual. They believe in the magic of all things, and that living is the best thing a person can do to honor that magic. To that end, they've dedicated their life to helping others, and they're often trained in medical or social arts to care for those who need it.

Ruena's health immediately improved upon moving, and she continues to stay at the Monastery for long periods of time into adulthood. Though she loves her home, she also craves something different--something more thrilling. Oftentimes nowadays she takes a long ferry ride to New Centuary, where she does work at an auto repair shop... in addition to street racing on a hard-earned motorcycle. It was during one of these street races that she crashed her bike and met her now-girlfriend, Marie.

Ruena is a sweet browbird, though not as sheltered as someone with her upbringing might be considered. She dresses casually, with croptops, leather jackets, and ripped jeans, and she has a magically placed tattoo to honor her home. She's somewhat shy, but when she's high on the thrill of a race or a run, her personality explodes into something bright and ecstatic.

With age, her condition has stabilized somewhat, but she still goes back to the Monastery regularly to refuel, so to speak. She has, however, moved permanently to New Centuary to live with Marie. They have magically infused crystals from her old home spaced across her apartment to help with her fatigue.
