worldbuilding
(see literature for more extensive info) Elspeth lives in a huge forest that possesses magical qualities. Satyrs are in charge of protecting it. To outsiders, it's very difficult to navigate so they often find themselves lost. In her youth, humans tried to destroy it to make space for their towns, and many forest dwellers died defending their home. Additionally, a dark magic began infecting the fauna and flora. The satyrs were able to fend off the humans after Elspeth healed the forest. Fearful that history would repeat itself, they wanted to cast protective spells over their land. She led a group of warriors to venture the outside world in search of magical knowledge. They found ancient texts and returned, using their newfound skills to keep their home safe. Since then, she's kept a watchful eye over her people and their land. Because of her connections to the outside world, she occasionally stumbles upon adventurers seeking help. She'll give them a riddle or potion and send them on their way
bio
She was born with the name Minerva to the leaders of the Erdo satyr herd, one of the three main clans. She trained in medicine under her father's guidance and became known as the healer who never lost a patient. Her title was challenged when a member of a highly respected family fell ill. Desperate to prove her worth and save her patient, she experimented with dark magic. Though she secretly healed them with her new methods, it did not come without a cost. Death spread across the woods. it took the health of plants and animals alike. Feeling guilty for adding burden to her clans' struggles, she decided to leave the forest hoping the curse would vanish with her. During her journey she met an old satyr who introduced herself as a witch. The witch showed elspeth evidence that the curse had been sprouting long before either of them took their first breath. Encouraged, she worked to reverse the hex with healing magic. After years of dedicated rebuilding, she became one of the most respected people in the forest
