Rico

tapir beast - nonbinary - he/they

Background

Rico enjoys a quiet life tucked away in a small biodome, providing his city with teas, breakfasts, and smoothies made from the freshest ingredients he can find. Thankfully there is just enough tourism to keep his business alive without the town being overwhelming or busy. It’s rare that he travels outside of his biodome, not appreciating the larger city life that so many other Xoam citizens adore.

He is relatively isolated in comparison to most, even among his neighbors. His preferred method of communication is by mail and radio if he isn’t actively serving customers or otherwise interacting with others for his business. Rico isn’t unfriendly - quite the opposite - but he’s nonetheless quiet and doesn’t offer much information about himself unless it’s directly asked of him.

Trivia

- Unsurprisingly, one of his favourite drinks is boba tea, particularly when it is made in part with a melon native only to Xoam called hoya - not to be confused with the Earth plant by the same name.

- He enjoys crafting and prefers snail mail over radio due to his ability to make personalized notes, envelopes, and other crafts. He seals most of his envelopes with wax seals stamped with custom carved wood.

Design Notes + Details

- Rico should be depicted as sturdy if not heavyset. His ribcage gives him a very barreled chest which doesn’t change much even at his waist. For body type references, malayan tapirs are a good example of what body type he has.

- Although he is fairly squat, he is surprisingly flexible. His spine may not bend all that much, but his limbs, neck, and tail have a much greater range of motion than expected.

- While his trunk’s proportions are similar to a tapir’s, he has a high degree of control and flexibility. He may not have the length to utilize his nose as a limb, but he still uses it often. The horn on his face is also a cartilage structure and isn’t immobile, but does not have independent motion from his trunk.

- When his jaws are fully open, the trunk usually lifts automatically, pulling his lips back and revealing his teeth. He has an extremely long tongue that, in the habitat his species hails from, allows him to take in pollen and nectar much like a hummingbird.

- The “material” his tail is made up of is up to artist interpretation so long as it appears somewhat leaf-like.
