PERSONALITY

Sigrún has a fighting spirit, but in her time away from her clan, it's become something more akin to stubbornness and a penchant for getting into arguments. She's rather lazy, preferring to sleep in then hang around doing nothing rather than go off adventuring for the thrill of it. All of this is a result of her feeling as though she has no future; she didn't think she'd live past 18, and now that she's 22 she feels like she doesn't have any aims or goals. Instead, she spends her time whittling, napping, or being nosy about the town gossip. She means well, though, and once you get past her prickly exterior, you'll find that she is aggressively loyal and has a loving heart. She's determined to protect her friends and wants to see them happy. All of those things fell by the wayside when she was exiled from her home, and she'll get back to that less guarded way of thinking and behaving. She just needs that neglected side of herself to be nurtured once again.

BIOGRAPHY

NOV

Sigrún was born in Nov, an isolated and largely unknown village deep in the forests. Her tribe includes shifters of many different forest creatures, and most of her family members are longtooth wolf shifters. She was raised by her mother, grandmother, and aunts along with her cousins. Her father died when she was a baby, and she is the oldest of her cousins. First transformation is a ritual for her people, and she trained her body in preparation to join the hunt. Her first transformation, however, resulted in her being banished and chased from her village. When she transformed, she took on the appearance of a creature from the tribal mythology, the Wolf of the Wild Hunt. Sigrún’s wolf form is a very large black wolf with glowing red eyes. Her fur gives way to iridescent feathers along her neck and shoulders and on her ears. The bones of her spine protrude along her back, and she has a skeletal jaw and large teeth. A slight afterimage of smoke trails from her paws and tail then vanishes. She was seen as a monster and a bad omen because of her unnatural appearance, as the Wolf of the Wild Hunt is a symbol of death. She was able, with her mother and aunts’ help, to gather her ceremonial knives, used in ritual transformation, as well as some other essentials before escaping. Her mother gave her the Cloak of Elvenkind, a family heirloom, as a means of hiding from anyone who might come after her.

THE FOREST

Sigrún had never been far outside her village at all, and was afraid to venture into another after what happened in her home. She lived for some time in the forest in her wolf form wandering, until she was spotted by a hunting party. The people of the nearby village, Febru, feared her, and she didn’t mind it much. She kept to herself, too afraid to get too close to the village, where they called her the Noctourne. She was afraid that people were right and that she could be an omen of something terrible to come. However, the people of the village began hunting her. Gus Giancola, the best hunter in Febru, cut deep into her shoulder with his battle axe. She managed to escape, if only just barely, and gravely injured she entered Febru in her human form. She claimed she was a traveler from Apri, another nearby village, and that she’d been attacked on the road by bandits.

FEBRU [Current Campaign]

Living in Febru, Sigrún works as a waitress and bartender at the Turnabout Tavern in exchange for room and board. She never expected to live as long as she had and had no plans for her future, so when she was presented with this new life she mostly lets it pass her by, feeling as though she was living on borrowed time. However, with the death of the Queen, the magic seals containing the monsters and dangerous creatures have begun to break, and that includes the seal holding back the horn that summons the creatures of the Wild Hunt. Sigrún begins having dreams of the Wolf, who explains that it has been laying dormant, using her as a host and hoping to use her to escape the spiritual cycle of being hunted. Sigrún is tasked with finding the seal before it breaks so as not to begin the hunt again, freeing the wolf to be hunted and the hunter to destroy her home in search of it.

RELATIONSHIPS

Adelphasium ChulanontParty Member

Sigrún's friend and party member. They didn't know one another well before their adventure began in spite of living nearby one another for two years due to the two of them both being incredibly socially awkward in their own ways. However, they've come to get along very well. Adel tends to be very indecisive and easily swayed, Sigrún's exact opposite, so she tries to steer them in a better direction (usually in a panicked and confused manner).

TulniaParty Member

Sigrún's friend and party member. Tulnia is Febru's golden child, and as a result Sigrún was somewhat familiar with her before they embarked on their adventures together. Tulnia has a bubbly and cheery personality, in direct contrast with Sigrún's more pessimistic attitude, and in spite of herself Sigrún finds herself endeared to her. Even when Sigrún is in a terrible mood, Tulnia can be counted on to be there with a sunny outlook and a shoulder rub for her troubles.

Arumi Holmes Boss

Arumi is Sigrún's boss and landlady, but Sigrún also sees her as an older sister figure. Arumi has seen a lot of the world and was an adventurer before she took over her parents' tavern, so Sigrún he looks up to her for advice and perspective from a more experienced point of view. Arumi is one of the few people Sigrún feels comfortable coming to with her problems because she knows that Arumi will listen and care, even if she offers her a little tough love.

Gven Pawstep  Girlfriend

Gven is Sigrún's roommate, coworker, and girlfriend. She's soft and kind hearted but has a mischievous streak. She wants to do the right thing and she's often naïve to the idea that others may not have her best interests at heart. Sigrún enjoys spending time with her just talking and laughing in their room or with their friend and coworker Gven.

Yigit KindlyFriend

Sigrún's friend, the apprentice to the town's Apothecary. She's nervous and riddled with self doubt, but Yigit has been crucial to Sigrún's quest to end the her possession by the Wolf. She's done research and made maps for the party, as well as supplying them with healing potions and other essential adventuring goods.

Dylan Ridgecutter Party Member

Sigrún's friend and now a new member of the party. Dylan is a hunter who is helping the group navigate the woods and protect themselves against any creatures that might come after them. He's cheerful and kind and always eager to lend a hand. Sigrún calls him the nicest person she's ever met.

"Gruff" Gus Giancola Attacker

Gus Giancola is one of the most prolific hunters from the village of Febru. He takes pride in having attacked the Nocturne, the monstrous creature that lived in the forest outside of the village. He doesn't know that Sigrún is the Nocturne so he's unaware that she's afraid of him. He is the one who injured her, causing her to come to the village in the first place.

INVENTORY

Cloak of Elvenkind

Cloak given to her as she rushed to escape Nov on the day of her exile. Her grandmother threw it over her shoulders with the promise that it had been in the family for many generations and it would help her stay hidden in the woods beyond their home.

The Cloak of Elvenkind is an uncommon magical item. With its hood up, it grants the wearer advantage on stealth checks and anyone attempting to see the wearer disadvantage on perception checks.

Ceremonial Daggers

Three ceremonial daggers are an important part of the ritual of first transformation in Sigrún's tribe. When she was exiled, she took hers with her. She carved the handle of one herself, one was made for her, and one belonged to her father.

Whittling Knife

A bone handled knife Sigrún carved herself to use for whittling as well as for survival. There is a proverb inscribed in runes on the blade, and the handle's runes read "PROPERTY OF SIGRÚN DO NOT TOUCH!!" in an attempt to keep her cousins' hands off her things back at home.
