Buddy lives up to his name - he’s warm and empathetic, chatty enough to thrive in social spaces, but quiet enough to be a shoulder to cry on. It’s really no wonder he ended up working the job he did. Buddy fosters a genuine care for most that come into his life, especially the café regulars he sees nearly every night. He’s interested in the stories people have to tell, hangs on their every word and remembers those details with seemingly little significance. He’s by no means a great wordsmith himself, but he does his best to at least be an enjoyable presence.
Most everyone will at least say he’s ‘nice.’ Some might say he’s a little too nice. Buddy’s sweetness isn’t hard to exploit. He always wants to believe the best in people, and has little experience in witnessing the darker sides of man and pokémon alike. He’s always felt incomplete and out of place, and may even subconsciously tilt his values to align with others in an attempt to be accepted by everyone. It’s because of this he might be manipulated rather easily.
Buddy wrestles with his sense of self and can be irregular in his emotions, prone to occasional bouts of melancholy or absentmindedness. It’s easy to misconstrue him as dense, which to some extent he can be. But it’s less for any lack of intelligence, and more the naiveté that comes with being a fairly new pokéhuman.
FORM PMR-1014C: History known of dittech holder.
He remembers little of his early life as a pokémon. He awoke one evening on the forest floor when his pokéball discharged, seemingly abandoned, and with what minimal knowledge of his life he possessed feeling more like a dream than a memory. He knew for sure that he was a shedinja, and that the device he’d been released from told him he belonged to someone. He didn’t recall his name or home or purpose, only left with a vague sense of urgency permeating the fog in his mind. So he left his capsule behind, wandering the forests of Kalos aimlessly until stumbling upon Pokémon Village by chance.
Buddy lived within the village for a while, taking a shine to being part of a community and even giving himself a name - one he hoped would make him seem friendly! He came to learn of the dittech technology through the few pokéhumans who helped him get settled, and was immediately enchanted by the idea. Soon enough, he was offered a dittech by a LVL-Co distributor making their scheduled pass through the village. Eager to experience more of the world, he gladly accepted and followed his benefactor back to Amie Isle. There, he was registered, housed, and left to his own devices.
Buddy spent a couple of months simply figuring himself and his new, strange form out. He took on a few odd jobs around the island, coming to realize there were a handful of things he was pretty good at! And a staggering number of things he wasn’t very good at at all. He wasn’t discouraged, however, and his experimentation eventually took him off the island and into the disorienting brilliance of Lumiose City.
Having discovered a passion for food and drink, Buddy currently works in a small late-hours café in the heart of Lumiose, and rents out a room at the Comfy Comfey most weekdays. He still has a residence on Amie Isle, and usually travels back to spend his weekends there and check up on old friends.
