About Ori✩

Kind

Loud

Excitable

Oblivious

Ori is an orphan that grew up at a place similar to an abbey, but specifically for knowledge. Because of the secrecy and rarity of a lot of the knowledge, everyone who lived there wasn't really allowed to leave or talk with outsiders, not that they wanted to talk to the scholars anyway. They were very full of themselves. She didn't have any friends growing up and basically was told from childhood her life would this and only this, because her family didn't care about her and that's why she's here. She's not worthy but now she has purpose as a scholar.

The library is isolated from the rest of the world in order to keep the information safe. It's remote and basically in the middle of no where, but not far from a river shore. Scholars aren't allowed to leave the grounds of the library so the shore was the only place ori could go to see the world and sometimes other people. She'd toss bottles with letters in them in hopes someone would come say hi but they never did.

But Ori was in the sect responsible for written language and she did always dream of leaving, but instead she spent her time staring at the skies and stars. She charted every constellation above her home for most of her life. It wasn't considered a distraction because it was learning still, so the scholars didn't mind. It was "new" knowledge for them after all, and it's encouraged for scholars to use their free time when not tending to the libraries to expand it. Though this generally comes in the form of questioning texts and using connections to acquire more, but usually just borrowing from other sects or branches around the world.

Ori's Magic✩

One day Ori found a star shard on the sands of the body of water near the commune. It's roughly the size of a mini konpeito candy and looks like one too (think animal crossing or the candy the soot sprites play w in spirited away) -- she takes it home because it's interesting and unlike anything she's seen before.

Which happens to be part of a fragment of a diety that acts as her spell focus.

She talks to it and it usually glows in response. She kept it around her neck for a while... Eventually she puts it in the cover of an old spellbook book and it's able to "talk" back to her in the form of a kaomoji hologram like thing but not words. It's very silly and kind to her, like a friend Oris never had before. She eventually names the book "Polly."

Polly helps her find new information about the stars and when she does, she has to tear up the old book and feed it to her new one.. where the words will transfer.

Every new constellation acts as a spell for her to use. Though she is limited to the amount of spells she can actively use at a time. So if she knows 12 constellations, she can only use the magic from 3 of them at once but can change every night.

Ori isn't entirely aware with her magic that she is destined to die once she's completed her spellbook. As she grows more powerful, she becomes more and more in tune with the stars... thus giving them to her. And her giving into them. So her eyes and nails are like snapshots of the sky. You can see the stars.. sometimes even shooting stars. And as she grows it moves over her entire body until she'll eventually crumble into stardust and become a constellation.
