Fern was born to parents among the poorest in the already poor area of Lenbeege, to the west. In a desperate attempt to escape the cycle of poverty, her parents had Fern sent to Soria City with loads of fraudulent money, and setting her up with prestigious education with private tutoring. Fern, not knowing any other life, abided by the laws of the life given to her, never once questioning.
At the age of fifteen, Fern was the first to be tutored in university-level subjects by Cocalo's other brother, and, in turn, fast befriended both him and Cocalo while living under their roof. During this time, Fern realized the independence she'd never had, and began a life outside of academic studies, including befriending Cocalo's brother's other students.
In the year 949 DD, Fern was involved in the accidental beheading of Cocalo. Remorseful for the following days, Fern spent her time shut-in to herself until her life was taken from her body while she slept.
Waking up outside, in a ghostly form, Fern was delighted at her reunion with Cocalo and the rest of her friends, and spent the following forty years causing hauntings and mischief by their side.
