Josivan was born to an easygoing, relatively wealthy family in Soria City, Enjoying his childhood in the garden behind his home, his life was uneventful until he toppled off the garden patio and impaled his torso through a filthy garden stake. Due to the size of the estate and his own pain, his cries for help were unnoticed for nine hours as he bled. Taken to the emergency room with a powerful fever, he was operated on for fourteen hours with no anesthetic, as it would have an adverse effect with his prescription medication. Aside from a gallbladder removal, two scars and months of antibiotics, Josivan emerged relatively unscathed.

Stubbornly refusing to let his injury slow him down, Josivan responded to everything in life with insincere positivity and optimism to stop others from worrying, no matter how self-destructive it would be. Burying himself deeper into a web of lies caused by his cheerfulness, he began to fall behind in college, while reassuring his family he was adequate, and eventually found tutoring to help him catch up behind his parents' backs. There, he became close with his tutor Luni, and his younger sister Cocalo.

Finding comfort in Cocalo's noisy, lively social group, he relinquished academics for leisure and spent his days lazily and happily with his crew, until his contribution to the accidental beheading of Cocalo.

After her death, he shut himself in his room in a state of constant panic and self-loathing, and was on the cusp of suicide but he woke up by Cocalo's side, already dead and ghostly, ready to cause mischief about the city for the following 40 years.
