Relationship with Hugh: Hugh is the parent Brenin aspires to be like. The brave protector, catching the villians to keep people safe. While Brenin might not be quite as close with Hugh as he is with Nate, which as a lot to do with Hugh often being away for his work as an Interpol agent, he takes pride in his father's profession. It was largly due to Hugh's work when he was still a cop that Brenin got out of his bad sitaution as home. This sticks with Brenin and he strives to be that same kind of person, fighting to uncover the truth of a situation to help those in need.

When Brenin and Hugh are together, they have an easy relationship. They have an unspoken connection, each able to tell how the other is doing without having to vocalize it (as opposed to Nate and Pax who need to discuss everything).

Relationship with Nate: Of his two parents, Brenin is closer with Nate, by virtue of him being the inital one to take notice of him and fight to get him out of his situation at home. Nate is very much the mother Brenin always wished he had, and he's extremely grateful to both him and Hugh for letting him into their family. Once he does start living with them, he was torn between a desire to follow Nate around the house to help him with anything he could need, and a desire to stay out of the way to not become a burden.

They eventually are able to reassure him he's welcome to do whatever he wants, this is his home now too, and Brenin ends up spending a lot of time with Nate, learning about Pokemon, picking up on domestic skills to help around the house. Anything Nate is willing to teach him, Brenin wants to learn. Even once he's out traveling, he makes sure to call Nate as least once a week, just to talk with his mother.

Relationship with Pax: His younger sister, who he absolutely adores above all else. It was due to his connection with Pax that he first got involved with the family, as she insisted he play with her each day he passed by the park she and Nate were at as he headed home from school each day. Even early on, he saw her as a bright spot in his dreary life, someone who honestly enjoyed his presense.

He falls into the overprotective big brother role when it comes to her, willing to do anything to keep her happy and safe.

A calm and collected boy, prone to being quiet and sullen as a byproduct of his initial homelife. His birth parents were neglectful and sometimes abusive towards him, and as such, he learned it was better to avoid attracting as much attention to himself as possible. He's cautious and critical of unfamiliar situations. His preference is to avoid them altogether, but when that's not an option, he prefers to bide his time and observe. Come up with the best course of action to deal with the situation.

Brenin's biggest hurtle is his inability to feel empathy for others. He can rationalize and observe the reactions of others all he wants, but not once can he say he's truly felt another's emotions when he's interacting with them. He has a hard time related to other people as a result. He's out of touch with his own emotions as a result of this as well, his quiet reaction to situations a byproduct of not knowing how he should be feeling. This isn't to say he doesn't have emotions, but due to having to repress his feelings as a child, he still struggles to this day.

Despite this, he strives to be a good and kind person, wanting to make his adopted parents proud. He admires how both of them are heroes, doing whatever they can to protect not just their own friends and family, but also the people in the region as a whole. That's the kind of person he wishes to be, so even if it causes him trouble, if he sees a person or Pokemon in need, he has to help them.

- Brenin is the foster son of Nate and Hugh, coming from a neglectful and sometimes abusive homelife before they eventually take him in. They foster him for about two years before formally adopting him, but the two years is simply a technicality as they had inteneded to adopt him from the very beginning.
- The pins he wears on his vest are gifts from his younger sister, Pax. She makes is a tradition to get him a new pin wheneer she travels somewhere (even if he's right there with her). He has so many from her that he'll rotate which ones he'll wear each day.
- When Nate and Hugh formally adopted him, they asked him if he wanted to take their surname or keep his birth surname of Wheeler. No matter his decision, they would support him 100%. Wanting to distance himself from his birth parents as much as possible, he asked if he could take their surname.
- In early prototype designs of his character, he was Hugh and Nate's biological son, being an overconfident flirt with Nate's brown hair and Hugh's red eyes. He was meant to be an homage to the Pokespe version of Nate, Lack-Two/Blake.
